Happiness Is Felt When Seeing These Cutesy (WE135)

It's been a while Weekend Engagement community. Happy New Year to all members and the founder @galenkp. I can't remember the last time I participated in a weekend engagement, even though I am always up to date on each week's concept; I just chose not to participate for various reasons, one of which is my weekend busyness. But I'm back now since the holidays are over.

I felt even better this weekend because I was able to sleep longer after several weekends of traveling. This time, I gave myself a break so that I could sleep longer and better. I started my day by eating at a Japanese restaurant I like because I was craving grilled chicken.

My order was served with a hot miso soup and green tea that made my body warm since it was cold. I was enjoying watching the chef cooking in the open kitchen while devouring my food.

It reminded me of the weekend engagement concept about cooking. I wanted to bake for this concept, but I was too busy doing other things last Saturday because of a special occasion, so I didn't have time. The other prompt, however, piqued my interest and coincided with my weekend experience, so I chose it.

So for today's Weekend Engagement, I chose this writing prompt.

Happy Feels On Weekend

Working abroad for quite a long time, I missed a lot of occasions at home and missed seeing my little siblings growing. Some of them had started making their own families and following the paths they chose. For quite a long years of working away from them, I also missed seeing my nephews and nieces. I'm just fortunate that technology helps me reconnect with them.

Last year I had a new nephew and niece from my younger brother and sister. Its kind've embarrassing that they already have their kids but I don't, lol. I'm just practical and thinking more about the future for other people's sake. I opted to buy them gifts last Christmas and since I am abroad, my only way was to buy online.

On the night of Saturday, 31st of December, was, of course, the New Year celebration. I was supposed to sleep that night and just let the New Year pass since there wasn't a celebration here. Besides, my eyes easily get hurt when staying long until midnight.

I opted to call my family as I was curious about how they celebrate New Year. As usual, they prepared some food and my mother was still a busy bee when I called them. I missed celebrating Christmas and New Year with them and I felt happy seeing them all in one place. But one thing that made me even happier that night was seeing my new nephew and niece.

My niece was wearing the pair of clothes I ordered for him online. I truly wanted to cuddle and pinch their chubby cute faces if only I could. While looking at them, I somewhat missed taking care of babies, like how I took care of their parents back in the time. But at the same time, I felt a little bit sad thinking about the baby stages that I would miss. By the time I get back home, they are already toddlers and I could no longer see them in this physical state.

For some reason, I have soft spots for babies, and seeing them, even just on the screen makes me feel happy. They are like my stress relievers and their laughter seems to be therapeutic. These babies easily lifted my mood and they even faded the hatred I felt against their parents back then, lol.

That concludes my Weekend Engagement entry for this week. I was supposed to title this "Their smiles make me happy," But after reading @jenthoughts entry with the same title, I decided to change mine, lol.
