11 photos of a motorcycle mechanic's shop :
Danang, Vietnam

Welcome to Friday.

In Vietnam, there are a few things that are guaranteed. First, there will be rain. Advanced rain like you have not seen before. Rain comes at you from the top the sides and the bottom, It is, in all regards, very impressive.

The second thing that is given, is that if you have a motorbike, it will often break, and you will need to take it to the shop. More so after the big rain. With all this being said, and with the weekend just around the bend, and a potential reopening of locations to go to, it was high time I brought the bike in for a tuneup.

Currently, on the bike, the starter didn't work, which I assumed was just a battery issue as it was sitting for about two months not doing anything, and I could always kick-start the bike. Also, in one of the last storms, an umbrella fell on my bike, smashing my side mirrors. While I don't technically need that side mirror, when I drive around town I do like to make sure there are no crazy things sneaking up on me, and I make heavy use of these... So getting that replaced was important. Along with a oil change to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Let's talk through the issues that turned out to be issues with my bike, and show you some photos I took while mulling about the mechanic shop waiting on them to fix my ride.

The Daily Photos

For the first photo of the day I show you my girl all ripped apart. What I thought was a simple battery change, they ended up taking all the panels off my motorbike, and had to troubleshoot some power lines... It turns out it was not the battery after all (* that was still good), but rather it was the starter that was causing issues. In this photo you see an extra battery sitting out as they test various things.

But what I find most exciting about these locations, is the intricacy of gearns exposed on these machines. The below image to me looks like it's CG rendered... But it's an actual factual tangible thing.

Then there are puddles of neon liquid... I assume anti-freeze, along with the dark browns of heavily used oil. It's beautiful, but also the environmental impact is so bad. :(

This photo did not turn out as good as I hoped it would, but I was trying to get a closer up shot of the distance...

Another photo looking into the inside of a break well.

Also, all the tires here come wrapped in this neon metal plastic tape... They look super colorful on the wall, but on the inside they are black, much like my soul. colorful on the outside, but dead on the inside.

Here are two really fun looking bikes, I think of the same design, rusting away, but probably super fun back in the day.

Also strewn about the mechanics floor, were strange little bits and bobs of different things, such as the errant washer.

Or like this one here, the ball bearings of some sort of internal gear system... so cool.

I wonder how long these little pieces have been gathering... What stories they could tell, about the miles traveled, before they ended up underfoot, on the floor here.

And close off today's photos, this is a picture of a Honda super cub. It is a vintage bike, but a lot of people love it for its design. Just look at that chrome... Hmm, mm Chrome.... so sexy.

This is the first Asian city I have lived in where I didn't get a motorbike. One good thing about owning one here, or any of the other places I have lived in SEA is that you are never very far away from a repair shop, so that pushing of the broke down bike will be short-lived.

@gooddream if you ever need to borrow a bike, let me know, you can use mine! It sort of works now, sort of okay ish. Lol.

And, I agree with you, repair shops are everywhere, and so long as you don't have some exotic motorbike, getting them fixed and serviced an updated is practically nothing. I can want to drive my bike even harder, because, I can. o.O

Have a !PIZZA too!! THanks for the comment. :D
