RE: Tales of the Urban Explorer: 'Bank'

The modern storefront steel and glass look in the lobby contrasts dreadfully with the stately exterior. I bet it used to have a dreadful bland dropped ceiling with fluorescent lighting, too. Ugh. The tiles may be gone, but I still see some light fixtures. That could still maybe become a useful business office, or even be renovated into trendy apartments, but could anyone there afford either outcome if the economy is based on pawn shops?

It's a long time since I visited the US, but sadly this is the case here now. There.. it was all Mall's, at least in AZ.
Shopping malls the dying off. In Spokane, the North Town and Spokane Valley malls have a lot of empty spaces, and the big anchor stores Sears, JC Penney, and Macy's are either gone or struggling. In Coeur d'Alene, the Silver Valley Mall was bought by a local sporting goods store called Black Sheep and has been transformed into a variety of outdoor stores where there were no prior tenants, so the lingering typical mall stuff is interspersed with knives, tactical gear, backpacks, kayaks, and other departments. It's pretty neat, actually. If only urbex in abandoned malls around the country were easier and more legal.
Derelict shops tend to be hard to get into. We tried recently and were met by a spat of failures. There's no shortage of them mind you. Over there seems to be the same with what you say. The internet rules, unless you want to eat out or buy clothes and shoes (to lesser extent).
