Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 746-748)

Hello Everyone!

Rainy days come and go, The wee greenhouse, Composting routines & So many useful leaves!

The day turned out to be a rather rainy one so I did not get outdoors much to do stuff or go hiking. That said... I will more than likely get rained on here shortly when I begin scrambling around before sunset to do my end of the day chores. Some things are just unavoidable.

Earlier I took a bath in the rain and the whole time I kept thinking about how if I had not continually procrastinated fixing the greenhouse... I would not be sitting in the rain! It really was not raining all that hard and there was not any chilly winds... so all in all the bath was enjoyable even without the 'steam room' effect that having the greenhouse over it creates as well as it acting as a wind-block.

Well, a few days have passed since the last I wrote anything here so I best dive back in and see what emerges. The weather has been quite rainy the last few days and I have been cooped up indoors but today I was able to get outside a bit, stretch my legs and get some things done.

By 'things' I mean cleaning up the dog yard and getting all the dog waste hauled off to the compost mound. As I have mentioned numerous times before I really like staying on top of the waste cleanup and always dread doing it if it gets behind like it did the last few days because of the nearly constant rainfall.

Getting some exercise in was quite nice and since I never raked up the leaves this year I wind up filling up the bucket rather rapidly when cleaning up the waste. Thankfully it is not all that heavy to lug around (even when full) but making those numerous treks to the compost mound whilst walking on a slight slope is always 'invigorating' to say the least.

Honestly, it has been very difficult to be motivated to do much around here given the uncertain nature of the scenario and to put it bluntly divesting myself from the situation instead of investing myself more... seems to be the most prudent course. Although it may sound like 'wisdom' speaking there it is more a desperate move on my part to circumvent contributing to and/or fostering feelings of resentment.

Meanwhile though... I never do well for long without having projects to work on, things to do, seasonal maintenance routines and all the other stuff that goes along with living the lifestyle that I do. In other words the physical workload aspect of it all is one of the things that I enjoy the most and sans that I always ask myself something along the lines of: What the hell am I doing with my life?

Long ago I realized that I have a tendency to overdo it in regards to the physical workload I will put myself under and will equally overdo it at the opposite end of the spectrum where I do very little physically. I will spare everyone a re-cap of my balancing act between those two tendencies but it is worth noting that more often than not I will be doing 'something productive' even while sitting still!

Most of the time I do not do more than remark upon some of those projects but oh yeah they exist and are always ongoing! As much as sharing a single topic is a fun thing to do it does make it challenging to not get too far 'off-topic' along the way and somehow keep things pertinent... informational... or even interesting.

Okay, it is rather late in the day and I gotta make one more round outside with the shovel (before dark) and get all the critters fed. On the brighter side of things... regardless of all the rainy weather having all those leaves around sure has cut down on how much grit winds up in the cabin from me and the dogs.

On that same note, I also have not had to harvest soil from the topsoil trap (for the compost) because I have such an abundance of leaves. Since they are mainly scrub-oak leaves they are quite small, easy to shovel and actually make for some rather nice cover material... so all it all it has been working out well.

Alright I think that I am going to keep this entry short and sweet and wrap it up before it begins to span any more days! I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice day/night.

These mushrooms really like this scrub-oak stump!

@jacobpeacock,

I feel its noteworthy to mention... No matter what the situation. No matter how difficult things might be in your corner of the world. You always end with a kind word, and an example of something I was just discussing with another dear friend on the blockchain:

Positive energy breeds Positive energy

We are all on the same path. Though some might tend to strive to complete this journey as simply "being'. Other's... like yourself, and that dear friend I mentioned. Like to be positive examples of how things can really be.

As always... good to hear from you brother. Hope to chat again soon.
