Sauce ! Never heard it called gravy around here, but of course, I haven't heard everything... have I ?

It certainly is flower time. I am a little behind. I still need a few more.

Peonies certainly do smell wonderful. Even after they start to wilt, they still smell good for so long !

"They" say ants learn and if they find an area or something edible that kills a lot of them they will leave it alone. Interesting theory,...right ? Last year I saw one.....then another near the kitchen sink of course. I killed them, wiped them away and washed down the area. Within a day or two I got up to an ant party. I sprayed them with window cleaner (closest thing at hand and kills them pretty instantly).... and left them for a few days. (THAT was hard to do), but then I cleaned it all up and never saw another ant the rest of the summer in my kitchen.

Weird... right ?

I would say that most call it sauce. Maybe even a few more than that. In New England, also areas where Italians migrated midcentury, many had kept many of the words, and sayings, of their homeland traits or integrated them. My Godmother was from Milan and my Godfather was from Calabria and both of them called it gravy. My own mother called it sauce, so really, it is the same thing. The only thing it had to be was homemade, from the finest ingredients! :) of that, they were united in thought.

I am in Peony heaven right now! It is the most delightful place!

I have to admit, the story of the ants is really interesting! I just saw two this morning, so I may do that and leave their tiny little ant bodies behind. (eww!) That is just gross, but, ant in the house? Worse. Thank you for the tip! I will give it a try!

Have a great day and a wonderful week ahead!

I first read the ant thing regarding using borax, where you put some borax in some jelly or something sweet and leave it out for them. It said don't put too much, because if it killed them instantly, the others would not take it back to the nest and they would quit eating it. I guess it's like the poison apple, if someone takes a bite and drops dead, nobody else around wants a bite ! LOL.. I guess another ant or two has to come see the dead bodies first..... and who knows, will it work again? I am so opposed to using poison in my kitchen that I just had to try it. Annoying little critters.
