Mount Mayon Gouache Painting Study - a Volcano in the Philippines
Hi, Hive friends! I really find it challenging to paint a mountain. Sometimes, Mount Mayon or Mayon Volcano from the Philippines always appears on my FB feed. It's like it's calling me to paint the beautiful Mayon.
I found this beautiful photo of Mayon Volcano with a beautiful sunset background. I love the sunset colors: violet, red-orange, orange, yellow-orange, and lastly, the blue color.
As you can see, I made a sketch using a pencil. Then, I painted the first layer using gouache paint like watercolor. Using the first layer of painting, I can easily see what it will look like.
I painted a second layer to make the colors more thick and vibrant. You can see all the sunset colors blending in the background.
When I was satisfied with the sunset colors, it was time to move on to the volcano and create some details and textures. Oh wow, this mountain/volcano painting looks real to me now. I also added the clouds in the background.
I also find it challenging to paint the water scene and this is how I did it. Look at that, almost done.
Look at that, I just need to add more details on the boat.
And what I love about this one is the added details of the coconut leaves. Damn, I love it! I first painted it with black paint using fine liners then added different shades of green to get that effect.
Voila! Here is the final look of the Mayon Volcano painting. Another mountain will be painted in the next article.
