Everything happens for a reason!

I don't know if the “Nothing goes as planned” rule goes for everyone but in my life, it seemed to be a trend. I watched the rain pour down in sheets; droplets chasing after each other and colliding into a pool on the ground. I shifted my gaze back to the muddy road trying to see if there was a free vehicle coming ahead. It was already 6:55 am and it didn't look like it was going to stop raining soon. I didn't know if Nana was there already, the person at the other end of the phone must have been exhausted from repeating “The glo customer you're trying to call is currently not available, please try again later.” I too was sick from hearing it.

It wasn't until 7:15 am that the downpour reduced to the droplets pattering softly on the rooftops, giving me ample time to fold my trousers and run towards a minibus that had pulled over just beside the shade I was standing under.

I tried Nana again.

“Treasure!” Her thick, Hausa accent called out from the other end. I released a deep sigh.

“Nana, I've been trying to reach you. Where are you?”

“I'm still at home. You know I'm not feeling too well so I was scared of entering the rain…”

“How will you meet up with the time now?”

I heard her defeated sigh over the phone.

“I don't know. There's this bleakness today has…”

Maybe it was time to take what my pastor had said to heart! He had suddenly stopped while preaching the day before, turned his gaze towards the sky as if receiving a direct message from an angel only he could see, and then brought the microphone back to his mouth.

“People of God, the devil doesn't fight nonentities. He struggles with greatness so that you miss what God has prepared for you, but today, somebody, say, today….”

An unplanned, unorganized chorus of “Today!” Suddenly filled the atmosphere.

“.... Today, God is catapulting you to a realm far above principalities and powers!”

A deafening “Amen!” Rented the air, causing me to nod in agreement subconsciously.

My mind came back to Nana.

“Listen to me young lady, you will get dressed and come out for this interview…” it was as if I had suddenly gotten recharged from that brief journey down memory lane. “We've worked so hard towards getting this job, you can't let this rain that has stopped already stop you.”

“Okay. The good thing is, I'm dressed already. I was just having second thoughts. Let me order an Uber.”

I arrived at the tech hub where we had both submitted applications to be a content writer and graphic designer respectively, it was almost 30 minutes past the fixed time for the interview, yet I couldn't see any notable activity going on.

I saw the other applicants scattered about, doing nothing so I walked up to one of them.

“Excuse me please, what's going on?”

He looked up from his phone and jerked his shoulders swiftly.

“I don't know. Most of us have been here since 7 but no one has addressed us yet. A lady came by to clean, but that was all.”

I thanked him and left to find a quiet spot to call Nana. She walked up to me while her line was ringing.

“What's going on?” I too, jerked my shoulders swiftly and then narrated what I knew to her.

At about 9 am, a smartly dressed young man walked up to us. The noise reduced to whispers then died down as soon as he began talking.

“Can I have everyone's attention? I've been sent to inform you that this interview will not be held today any longer. We're having some technical issues. Please, forgive us for the inconvenience. A new date will be communicated to you guys as soon as possible.”

Nana and I exchanged looks of disbelief but that was all we could do.

“Let's get something to eat before I faint. My medication is really strong” she suggested, pulling me by my arm towards the company's canteen where we first met.

I had met her the day I came to submit my application. She had been nursing a bottle of soft drink and the seat opposite her was the only one left. When she discovered I was also an applicant, she started making conversation.

“I'm sorry I made you spend money unnecessarily today,” I said when we had gotten our plates of Jollof rice and beef.

“For what? You didn't know they would cancel. Besides, everything happens for a reason.”

I had to agree with her because that was purely God setting a standard against the enemy that came like a flood that morning, just as my pastor had told us He would.

It was such unfortunate on the part of the interviewers, probably they thought the interview could still be held, hence the reason they were not able to inform you guys just in time to avoid such a waste of your time.

It is nice to see that you and Nana have such a positive attitude towards their disappointment.

We had a positive attitude toward it all, at least, we no long had a reason to feel bad about coming late as a result of the weather. Thank you for reading dear.

There is a lot of truth in your words, everything that happens to us in life has a reason, an effect and a cause. When things don't go the way we want, we must accept it with serenity and a good attitude, just like you did.

Thanks for sharing.
Good day.

Everything does happen for a reason, and we witnessed the downpour and how the interview was canceled were all connected. Thank you for reading.

Every disappointment is a blessing, regardless of how unfortunate it seems. I'm sure you learned from it.

The interviewers were probably at home, curled up in bed with a cup of hot tea after the heavy downpour, that might be the "technical difficulties" 😅

Wahala 😂😂😂😂😂😂

And they could not send a mail to let us know that we are free to curl up in our own beds with our cups of tea as well ...lol

That's just one thing we have to believe as human that everything in life happens for a reason.once we do, we will have less worries.

If we think like this completely, it will make us lazy, but once in a while, we should accept the hands of fate in some events.

The interviewers were not fair. I have experienced situations like that too. The worst thing is that nobody compensates for anything. Well, everything happens for a reason.

Ha! who will compensate you in this country of ours? Be playing. Never. They won't do that.

Typical behaviour. The interviewers could have let you know in advance but you got to spend time with Nana. Love the description in the beginning.

Thank you diebitch, they would have sent us emails, and we would not have tried to beat the weather to attend.
