Hello everyone and Foodies, how are you guys today? By the way, in recent days news about the latest variant of covid-19 continues to decorate newspapers and media. Although I'm sure many of us don't care anymore about the pandemic, it doesn't hurt to take care of our health. I hope and pray that all of us are always healthy and happy. For me, one way to be happy is to eat good food.

There are many delicious foods in Indonesia, especially in my city. Medan is a city in Indonesia which is famous for having a lot of culinary and delicious food, this is also what makes many people feel at home to live and have activities in this city. Various types of culinary and food are present in my city. Starting from authentic Indonesian culinary delights to several other countries' cuisines, such as Indian food, Chinese food, or Arabian food. This time I want to tell you about a good place to eat in my city, it sells halal Chinese food (because I'm Muslim, I'm trying to find halal food), namely Pak Tiam Seafood.

Pak Tiam Seafood

What do you think of when you hear the word “Pak Tiam”, maybe you will think of a coffee shop or restaurant run by Chinese people. That's right, Pak Tiam Seafood is a Chinese-style restaurant that sells various dishes such as fried Kwiteau, fried ifumie, fried vermicelli, and fried rice. The thing that makes it special is that all the menus use seafood toppings and the process uses halal food ingredients (no pork or cooking wine).

In the city of Medan there are four locations that have the name Pak Tiam Seafood. There are two outlets on Jalan Serdang, and two outlets on Jalan Sentosa. You don't need to be confused, because all of them are original outlets from Pak Tiam Seafood, not imitations. Why are there so many outlets with similar names? Pak Tiam Sudan died and had 10 children. Then, Pak Tiam's 4 children continued and continued their business in different places, and all of them also sold the same menu, namely halal Chinese food.

I visited Pak Tiam Seafood which is located on Jalan sentosa baru no. 23 C in the District of Medan Perjuangan, Medan City. When you see this restaurant from the front, it is very similar to the style of Chinese restaurants in Indonesia. The food steling is located in front of the restaurant, and all food is cooked in front, so that customers can watch the cooking process.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very clean and at that time the visitors were very crowded, visitors who wanted to eat on the spot and take away had to queue to wait. All the food sold here is cooked when ordered so that the food remains warm when eaten.

There are two interesting things when I visited this place. First, Pak Tiam Seafood has an Intellectual Property Rights certificate (Patent from the Indonesian Ministry of Law) for the use of the “Pak Tiam Seafood” brand, so that it can prevent food businesses from copying their brand. Second, Pak Tiam Seafood is a Chinese restaurant that sells halal food, they complete it with halal certification by the Indonesian government. This aims to avoid buyer doubts or slander from business competitors. Because several years ago, Pak Tiam Seafood had received hoaxes and slander.

I ordered two meals and drinks. Even though, the shoppers are busy, the cooking process is very fast and buyers/visitors don't have to wait long. Because, this restaurant will always cook with large portions. One of my tips, if you want to get an order faster is to order the same menu and not have a variety of menus.

Seafood Fried Kwetiau

Kwetiau is a noodle-shaped food originating from China and developed according to the food culture in Indonesia. Kwetiau is slightly different from other noodle forms, usually the noodles are curly and stick and yellow in color, but Kwetiau is flat and thick.

Kwetiau Goreng Seafood from Pak Tiam Seafood has a very large portion, we were surprised when this food came to our table. We think the portion size is 1.5 times of normal kwetiau. The taste of Kwetiau is savory and salty, the use of scrambled eggs plus the filling of this food is very much, such as meatballs, shrimp, and squid. Everything is combined in the special seasoning of Pak Tiam Seafood. In addition, the kwetiau used is rice kwetiau instead of starch kwetiau so it is more filling and delicious when eaten.

Seafood Fried Ifumie

Our second order was the Seafood Fried Ifumie. Ifumie is a popular Chinese food in Indonesia. Ifumie you often see displayed in front of Chinese restaurants. The ifumie form is dried curly noodles in the shape of a bird's nest. The cooking method is usually stir-fried using a thick gravy with toppings.

Just like our previous order, the portion of this food is also very large. If I had eaten before here, maybe I couldn't finish this meal. The ifumie is very good, it's salty and savory. Unlike the kwetiau, ifumie is cooked in a wetter condition, so the mix of spices is more pronounced on my tongue. Meatballs, prawns and calamari filled my plate, the toppings were plentiful and using fresh ingredients. For both each order, I paid IDR 20K, which is quite a low price for a delicious and generous portion of food.

Soda Badak

Soft drinks are the most fitting companion for when eating noodles. I ordered the original local coke from Indonesia, namely BADAK (rhinoceros). This drink is the favorite soft-drink in my city, the taste is similar to AW but there are reviews from foreign tourists in Indonesia, saying this drink tastes like cough medicine.

Okay, this is my food review this time, I am very satisfied eating at Pak Tiam Seafood, wait for my next meal.
