To start 2022, I will tell you about my experience and review of a Chinese restaurant that I visited a few days ago. Every time before Christmas and New Year's Eve there is always an increase in the price of food ingredients in Indonesia, especially a few days before Christmas there is a storm so that the stock of fish sold in the market is very limited and not varied. The price of chicken meat and eggs has also gone up drastically, making us too lazy to cook and just go to eat at a restaurant, well for refreshment and fun. My wife and I visited Jala Jala Nelayan Restaurant.

Jala Jala Nelayan Restaurant

This restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants. This restaurant is famous for providing dim sum menus and also several Asian Cuisine menus, such as kwetiau, special noodles, rice, various seafood, etc. Jala Jala Nelayan has many branches and is even available in every mall in my city. I stopped at one of the branches of Jala Jala Nelayan at Manhattan Mall Medan.

My wife loves to eat here, in fact it is her favorite Chinese restaurant. I have eaten in almost all branches of this restaurant. One of the highlights of this restaurant is the very friendly, fast, and structured service. The position of the waiters is not far from each table, we don't have to scream to call the waiter when ordering food or there is something we need.

The atmosphere of Jala Jala Nelayan Restaurant is always busy and never lonely. On weekends, sometimes to eat here we have to join the waiting list. This restaurant has a very authentic traditional Chinese ornament. The design of this restaurant is also very child and parent friendly, that's why this restaurant is always an alternative choice for dining with family.

About Menu

One of the advantages of this Chinese restaurant is that it has a lot of menu choices. Almost all menus are Asian Cuisine, such as steam dim sum, fried dim sum, kwetiau, even this restaurant also has a vegetarian menu. The most popular and famous menu at this restaurant is dim sum. Usually, I also always order this menu but this time I wanted to order something different. I ordered a menu of food that I never ordered, namely Kwetiau Siram Seafood, Beef Cheese Grilled Rice, Leng Hong Kien, and Sushi Mentaiko Roll. How does it taste? this is my review for this food.

Kwetiau Pour Seafood

Kwetiau is one of my favorite Asian food. According to my friend, kwetiau is best when cooked in Chinese style. Honestly I agree with that, several times when I eat kwetiau cooked in a local style I don't really enjoy it. This is the first time I eat kwetiau flush, usually I eat fried kwetiau or boiled kwetiau. When this food was served on my table, without having to taste it I was sure this was a very good meal.

I immediately tried the gravy flush from this food, the taste of the gravy siram was very good. The texture of the thick gravy and special spices belonging to Jala Jala Nelayan Restaurant made me immediately feel happy at that moment. This kwetiau also has a soft texture, and goes very well with the thick gravy. Kwetiau Pour also has a lot of fillings and toppings, there are fish balls, shrimp, and various vegetables. The taste of this food is also very fitting, not too spicy and the salty taste is just right. I don't need to add sauce to eat this dish.

Beef Cheese Grilled Rice

This menu was ordered by my wife. Initially, my wife asked for recommendations from the waiters for what menus were suitable to eat. At that time, my wife wanted to eat rice and then ordered this food. This food is one of the most ordered “rice” menus at this restaurant.

One of the advantages of this restaurant is that each customer does not have to wait too long to be served to our table. This food is served in a bamboo container and wrapped in aluminum foil. This menu is a new menu at this restaurant, because as I recall, several years ago there was no cheese rice menu in this restaurant.

This food looks very tempting and appetizing. The melted mozzarella cheese is baked until it is yellowish and brown in color, the beef slices are also covered with the grilled cheese. I tried two mouthfuls of this food, it was very creamy, savory and of course very delicious. Apparently, this dish uses the famous fluffier Hainanese rice. I can also taste the beef and garlic broth which is very strong. The taste of the meat is very good, it seems that it has been seasoned before cooking.

Leng Hong Kien

This food belongs to the category of fried dim sum. Leng Hong Kien is a food dish consisting of five shrimp balls (which are oval in shape), wrapped in flour dough and fried. Then, this food is covered with mayonnaise sauce and sprinkled with sesame. This food is one of the favorite foods that my wife always chooses when eating here. When I eat it, the savory taste of the prawn meatball blends with the sweet and savory mayonnaise, a perfect snack.

Mentaiko Sushi Roll

I was very surprised, at this time Jala Jala Nelayan Restaurant sells sushi menus. Perhaps, this is their way of not losing customers who run to Japanese restaurants for sushi. I tried to eat one slice, and can quite enjoy the taste of this mentai sushi.

About Price

How much did I spend on all this food? For the price of kwetiau flush with seafood I paid IDR 48K, Nasi Grilled Cheese for IDR 48K, Leng Hong Kie for IDR 37K, and Sushi Mentai Roll for IDR 25K.

Is the price expensive or cheap? If we use the parameters of good service, delicious taste, and a cool restaurant atmosphere, the price is still quite reasonable. However, I also understand if someone says eating at this restaurant is quite expensive. For all food and beverage menus I spent IDR 189K, or maybe the equivalent of 9 Hive (today's exchange rate).
