Go to Cinema on Weekends
I remember a quote that my former co-worker used to say. He was the happiest person on the weekends, as if all the troubles of work and troubles during the five days of work he could forget. He said on weekends, remember to see and count the rainbows and forget all the storms and thunderstorms. I also want to have fun this weekend.

This weekend, I went to the cinema to watch the latest Indonesian movie which premiered this weekend. Watching at the cinema is one of the normal choices of Indonesian people on weekends. Especially for people who live in the city, and don't want to go too far from where they live. In addition, on weekends there are also many people from other villages or cities who do not have a cinema in their city or place of residence.

I came late to the cinema, but I needn't have worried. Because I've bought tickets since a few days ago. I got a buy one get one ticket promo for the movie I was going to watch. The atmosphere of the cinema when I came was a little quiet, because the five movies that were shown in this cinema were at the same time of screening. I'm also not too worried, because in Indonesian cinema there are always screenings of promotional trailers for other movies and usually the screening will be delayed 15 minutes from the schedule on the ticket.

The First Indonesian Heist Movie

The movie I watched was titled “Steal Raden Saleh (Steal Raden Saleh)” which is a local Indonesian film produced by Visinema Pictures. This film was written and directed by Angga Sasongko, one of my favorite directors. Angga Sasongko is a young director with out of the box ideas, his works may not be commercially successful but they are still captivating for me.

Stealing Raden Saleh is Indonesia's first heist movie and that's the reason I watched the premiere of this movie. This heist, action and crime genre is very rarely found in Indonesian Movies, I'm afraid this movie doesn't get a good response and goes down the cinema screen faster. Film directors and producers in Indonesia are not brave enough to make a breakthrough or change. These filmmakers tend to play it safe with horror, romance, or comedy genre movies which do have a very strong fan base.

As a movie fan, I always try to support Indonesian movies that have new and fresh genres. One way is to watch it in cinema and invite other people to watch it too, such as friends or family. I'm afraid that if out of the box movies and unusual genres are not watched, the producers or directors will not dare to go out of their comfort zones because new ideas or new movie genres don't sell well.

The audience at the premiere of this movie also almost filled the capacity of this cinema, only the bottom two seats were empty even though I was watching it at the early screening or during the day. For your information, this movie stars young Indonesian actors who also have a lot of social media followers. The six main stars of this film have actually often been the main actors and are considered the future stars of Indonesian cinema.

Not Expected But Very Entertained

Honestly, I didn't have any expectations when watching this movie. I just have nothing to lose, but it turns out that this movie is very cool and very exciting. Stealing Raden Saleh tells the story of the theft committed by six young amateurs with various interests. The object stolen was the painting “The Arrest of Prince Diponegoro” by Raden Saleh, a pioneer of modern Indonesian art who lived in the era of Dutch colonialism. The painting is a national treasure from Indonesia. Apart from being a masterpiece, the painting has a very strong philosophical meaning and spirit.

This movie is very interesting with 152 minutes duration that doesn't make me bored. There is hardly a single scene in vain from this movie, made very neatly. The introduction of the characters at the beginning is also very good, not rushed but also not long-winded. I think this is a movie that really deserves to be watched this weekend.

Okay, here's my weekend story. Do you also like going to the cinema on the weekends? is there a movie that you recommend from your country this weekend?

These days Indonesian movies are upping their game. I would say since watching pengabdi setan2 and some other movies, the industry have changed. They come up with more interesting plot and better cinematography.

Hello @macchiata thank you for stopping by.
Yup, in 2022, Indonesia movie finally becomes king in Indonesian cinemas. There are many films that have managed to attract people's attention with various plots and genres.

To be honest, I haven't watched Servant of Satan 2 because I don't like watching horror movies or ghost movies. But my wife has watched it and she says it's really cool. I believe that, all movies from Joko Anwar except the horror genre I have watched and are very good.

Seeing the development of the film industry in Indonesia, I can be optimistic about it. I have always hoped that at least there would be an Indonesian movie that could be nominated for an Oscar.
