Condiments, Herbs and Medicinal Plants./ LOH # 124

Since humanity exists, there has been the use of plants as medicines to treat serious and temporary illnesses, by bartering and exchanging these plants, the expansion and propagation of a species could be given to another continent where it was not native.

This use of plants as medicine went out of fashion with modernity, people preferred the fastest way, which was a pill that they could get at any Pharmacy around the corner, come home, take a pill and roll it with a sip of water and that's it, holy remedy.

But the arrival of a virus that took us by surprise and that did us so much damage causing so many deaths led us to use again our forgotten herbs and spices that were hardly used anymore. I remember that we began to make lemon, ginger and honey drinks or hot tea at night and we added any branch that we had in the patio such as mint or malojillo and everything to keep the virus from around us and that it could not touch the throat from any member of our family.

In my house there is almost always garlic, the star species par excellence, when frying garlic with onion to make a stew, the whole house is impregnated with a smell that reaches the depths of our being and not to mention the medicinal properties they carry and that they offer us through a meal.

Another essential is the Annatto (onoto or paprika) that gives a little color to the meats without making them look pale and that also gives them flavor. Others that we use, but that are not so essential are: Cumin, Pepper, Curry, Oregano and some other as needed.

I am going to share a recipe that I made two weeks ago with the intention of reducing inflammation in my stomach, but it also serves to cleanse the liver. The ingredients are: 1 medium onion (I used the purple one, which is much more medicinal than the white one), a piece of ginger and a whole head of garlic. All chopped into squares and cook with half a liter of water. After it boils for 10 minutes, turn it off and add 2 tablespoons of Curcuma powder.

20230306_182645.jpg

Curcuma should not be allowed to boil because it loses its medicinal power. Then it is allowed to cool and a lemon is cut into slices and added to the container where we are going to pour it, strain it and add it to the jar. 1 tablespoon should be taken before sleeping for 7 days in a row.

And last but not least, I always try to have this medicinal plant in my house. As a poultice it serves to deflate an external inflammation, its gel inside its stalk is used for suporitives for children and adults and in cosmetics it is used to apply it to the hair and give it shine and prevent hair loss.

This is my entry to the weekly contest of the #ladiesofhive community with the questions from my friend @elizabethbit in week # 124, I hope the instructions and the recipe given in this post will help you. All photographs are my property, taken for this blog.

Condimentos, Hierbas y Plantas Medicinales./ LOH # 124.

Garlic is used to cure many ailments and to prevent many diseases such as cancer is wonderful. It has a rich flavor mixed with food and I can only take it as a pill, I swallow it whole and then drink water. 1 daily garlic on an empty stomach is very good help for the body. Thanks for going through my post @luna1999

The shot tastes like lemon, what I didn't like is that it tastes like the bitterness of the lemon peel, but the lemon peel also has its properties, so you have to leave it- As there are only 7 and 1 tablespoon a day it is not so hard to swallow hehe. Greetings friend @elizabethbit and thanks for the questions this week.

In my house we usually have ginger, garlic and turmeric. Believe or not sometimes going back to nature and with simple remedies help too.

The Covid19 showed us that it is possible to return to the natural and that it is much better than chemistry in many cases, so we will stay with that for a while longer @macchiata

The list can keep going on. When I had a skin infection, the only way I treated it with was Aloe Gel and my Ayurveda Doctor gave me a garlic base cream, it was the most effective in healing.

(Edited)

Dermatologically, Aloe Vea is used for all skin conditions, in particular I used it to reduce inflammation in the knee of my son who injured it in Martial Arts, the doctors wanted to remove liquid from it and I told them to let me try the poultices from Sabila. It was the remedy to deflate his knee. My daughter has used it for dandruff in her hair and it works great. Thanks for visiting my blog friend @nainaztengra greetings.

Voy a guardar tu receta. Saludos cordiales.

Garlic 🧄 is the queen of all herbs for me.

I do take it At least twice a week I swallow a few cloves with water. It keeps infections of all kinds away and boosts my immune system.

Before I discovered garlic I use to have malaria almost every month but now maybe once a year and that happens when I neglected my garlic

Thank you for sharing your knowledge of these natural medicinal remedies with us @isabelpena.
You are so right, we run to the pharmacy for instant relief, whereas nature often provides cures that may take longer to work, but are way more effective in the long run.
Have a lovely weekend 🤗
