Greetings. Checking the feed of the people I follow I came across this interesting post from friend @lisbethseijas, about an initiative original by @brujita18, where we are invited to answer some questions related to coffee and our life.Let me tell you...

Tell us a Coffee Anecdote

A few years ago we used to vacation on a small farm in the mountains of Nirgua, Yaracuy, owned by one of my brothers. The place was very beautiful, a bucolic area with a cold climate and a lot of fog. One of the disadvantages of the area, apart from the rough road, was that there were no grocery stores nearby, so we had to carry all the food we were going to eat.

On one of the trips we had a delay due to a breakdown and we were quite late, by the time we arrived at the plot it was already dark and everyone was tired. We unpacked the essentials, lit the kerosene lamps, set up the hammocks and beds, and got ready to sleep until the next day.

Very early in the morning my mother woke me up quite alarmed, between whispers she told me that we had a problem. When I went with her to the kitchen she told me very upset that the coffee had been damaged. Surely when we were solving the breakdown, someone moved the coffee bag, broke it, and almost everything got dirty with the dust from the road. We could not go without coffee because it was unimaginable to go four or five days without tasting a cup of coffee.

The solution was not given by the boy who took care of the plot, he informed us that about ten kilometers away, on the road that went towards the river, a lady was roasting and grinding small amounts of coffee, it was not sure if she had any, but nothing was lost by finding out.

I saddled the mare and went along a narrow road enjoying the beauty of the landscape, almost at mid-morning I arrived at the lady's place. At that moment she did not have coffee ready for sale, she was roasting and then grinding, she told me to wait a little while. It would be about two hours, but the time flew by. The smell of roasted and freshly ground coffee was intoxicating, and the lady very kindly gave me an exquisite arepa with curd.

It was about three o'clock in the afternoon when I was back, the whole family group had gathered in the corridor waiting for my arrival, their faces were a mixture of expectation and discomfort. After going all day without coffee their spirits were low.

The first one to run out to ask was my mother, her face lit up when I showed her the bag with the kilo of coffee. She almost snatched it out of my hand and ran to the kitchen. A few minutes later the pleasant smell of coffee spread through the house, everyone celebrated when my old lady appeared with the tray carrying the cups full of the bitter liquid. It was one of the tastiest coffees I have ever tasted in my life...

What Sad Moments have you lived next to a cup of coffee?

In our culture it is common to serve coffee at the wakes of the deceased, this in order to frighten sleep away during those long nights when the loved one is kept awake, before being prepared for burial. Many times I have participated in this ritual with family, friends and acquaintances.

Recently I had sad moments with my father's illness. Before his illness worsened and he passed away, he spent some time in the hospital. There, his wife, my brother and I would go down to the coffee shops near the hospital to relax for a while, and between one cup and another we would talk about the old man's condition, which was not improving much. We would also take advantage of those moments to bring him a cup of coffee half hidden. One of the things that the old man missed the most while he was hospitalized was drinking coffee, he was one of those who drank about six or eight small cups a day. Undoubtedly that was one of the saddest moments I have ever lived next to a cup of coffee.

Has Coffee helped you with your Love Relationships?

Yes, I met my wife when I was her professor at the University, she was a teacher and had enrolled in the undergraduate programs where I was a Professor. From the very first classes I was struck by her intelligence and willingness to participate in class discussions, and more than once I coincided with her in the university cafeterias. It was in those meetings, in the cafeterias, where I got to know her better; between cup after cup of coffee we talked about many things, and the more I got to know her, the more attractive she became to me, the more I fell in love with her.

Near the University there were some very nice pastry shops, there we also stayed for a long time after leaving classes, and we continued our endless talks while we enjoyed delicious sweets and an exquisite coffee. Those were our first outings. There, in between chats, we became sweethearts, and things progressed until we became a couple, a little over thirty-two years ago...

One of our rituals of this autumnal age, in which we both find ourselves, is to have a cup of coffee on our porch every afternoon, there we continue to talk about anything and everything, as in those distant college days.

What Person Comes to Your Thoughts Over a Cup of Coffee?

My mother. For as long as I can remember I have seen her with a cup of coffee. In all the time I lived with her and every time I visit her, the first thing I see in the morning is her smiling face telling me: "Negrito, here is your coffee! For her coffee is one of those pleasures that she wants to share with everyone.

A few years ago we had a very difficult situation in the country, where there was a great shortage of all the products of the basic diet, among them coffee. My mother knows that my wife likes it very much, and one of the things she did was to make long lines in the city where she lives, Barquisimeto, to buy a very tasty coffee, and every time she could she came to Maracay to bring us two or three kilos of "Cordillera" coffee. Sharing coffee with others is something that gives her a lot of joy.

I really enjoyed making this publication, to give continuity to the initiative I invite my friend @damarysvibra.

Thanks for your time.

ESPAÑOL

Saludos.

¡Saludos amigo @irvinc!
