A day with art / Un día con arte

There is always something that makes our days a special occasion, we just have to know how to look for it and let ourselves be carried away by the rhythm that marks every minute. And for me it was to visit the Colonial Art Museum, located in the heart of Old Havana. I am a lover of all artistic expressions, I feel that they fill my soul and make me more aware of all the beauty that surrounds me.
I was encouraged to share this experience because I really enjoyed the time I spent there, surrounded by an atmosphere of another era, breaking the daily routine, among stained glass windows remembering my city of birth, my beloved city of Camagüey. I think I needed a trigger to start writing my blog of daily activities, and I found an excuse in this special place.

Siempre hay algo que hace de nuestros días una ocasión especial, solo tenemos que saber buscar y dejarnos llevar por el ritmo que marca cada minuto. Y para mí lo fue conocer el Museo de Arte Colonial, ubicado en el corazón de la Habana Vieja. Yo soy una amante de todas las expresiones artísticas, siento que me llenan el alma y me hacen estar más consciente de toda la belleza que me rodea.
Me animé a compartir esta experiencia porque disfruté muchísimo el tiempo que pasé allí, rodeada de un ambiente de otra época, rompiendo la rutina diaria, entre vitrales recordando mi ciudad de nacimiento, mi querida ciudad de Camagüey. Creo que necesitaba un detonante para comenzar a escribir mi blog de actividades diarias, y encontré una excusa en este lugar tan especial.

I could read on an informative plaque located at the entrance of the museum, that the building was formerly the Casa del Conde de Casa Bayona and dates back to the 18th century. The architecture is really interesting and very well preserved. I imagine how privileged the former owners of the building felt, having the chance to wake up every day with the view of the church of the Cathedral of Havana, which has an impressive facade. I could not fail to take a picture of the panorama from one of the balconies overlooking the square, to feel like the ladies of the time 😄.

Pude leer en una placa informativa ubicada en la entrada del museo, que el inmueble anteriormente fue la Casa del Conde de Casa Bayona y data del siglo XVIII. Realmente la arquitectura que tiene es muy interesante y está muy bien conservada. Imagino lo privilegiados que se sentían los antiguos dueños de la edificación, teniendo la posibilidad de amanecer cada día con la vista de la iglesia de la Catedral de La Habana, que tiene una fachada impresionante. No podía dejar de tomar la foto del panorama que se disfruta desde uno de los balcones que miran hacia la plaza, para sentirme como las señoras de la época 😄.

I found a harpsichord!!!! Yes friends, it is the musical instrument that is considered by many people as the ancestor of the piano. I had already heard it mentioned but I had never seen one, that gave me a lot of satisfaction, and a lot of desires to get some musical notes too.

¡¡Encontré un clavicordio!! Sí amigos, es el instrumento musical que es considerado por muchas personas como el antecesor del piano. Ya lo había escuchado mencionar pero nunca había visto uno, eso me dio mucha satisfacción, y muchos deseos de sacar algunas notas musicales también.

Most of the rooms on the second floor are closed now because they are going through the restoration processes that are scheduled to keep all the pieces in good condition; but the second floor has all its areas in operation. There you can find spaces that simulate the bedrooms and the rooms to receive visitors: all with furniture and decoration of yesteryear. I could perceive that it was characteristic the existence of many lamps, to guarantee the illumination at night because at that time there was no electric light; and the high ceiling props, for a better air circulation and to better receive the high temperatures that we have most of the year in Cuba.

La mayoría de los salones de la primera planta se encuentran cerrados ahora porque están atravesando los procesos de restauración que se programan para mantener en buen estado todas las piezas; pero el segundo piso si tiene en funcionamiento todas sus áreas. Ahí se encuentran espacios que simulan los dormitorios y las salas para recibir visitas: todos con mobiliario y la decoración de antaño. Pude percibir que era característico la existencia de muchas lámparas, para garantizar la iluminación en las noches pues para aquel entonces no había luz eléctrica; y los puntales del techo bien alto, para una mejor circulación del aire y recibir mejor las altas temperaturas que tenemos la mayor parte del año en Cuba.

There was a piece that caught my attention, and one of the museum guides who noticed my interest explained to me that it was a kind of Italian porcelain baptismal font used to baptize the babies of the wealthiest families of that time where religious traditions were deeply rooted. He also explained to me that everything that is treasured in the museum is kept with great zeal, because the historical value of each item is incalculable.

Hubo una pieza que me llamó muchísimo la atención, y una de las guías del museo que notó mi interés me explicó que era una especie de pila bautismal de porcelana italiana usada para bautizar a los bebés de las familias más pudientes de aquel entonces donde las tradiciones religiosas estaban muy arraigadas. Igualmente me explicó que se resguarda con mucho celo todo lo que se atesora en el museo, porque el valor histórico que posee cada artículo es incalculable.

I have enjoyed doing a different activity in my daily routine, and although not every day I visit such a beautiful place, I will continue to find magic in every day of my life and I will stop by to tell you about it.

He disfrutado de hacer una actividad diferente en mi rutina diaria, y aunque no todos los días visite un lugar tan bonito, seguiré encontrando magia en cada día de mi vida y pasaré por acá a contarles.
