Kaboo sat atop his empire of nothing. On the first day of the full moon, he had been so sure of his plan, and now? His pack was slain, his territory inhabited by Klackzar, his paws grasped for earth and found only sand.
He wished he, too, had received death. At least then he would have no concern with what came next. But they left him his last breaths, to wander the world in shame.
No. He would make them regret leaving him alive. His empire of nothing would become a vacuum. The emptiness of space is nothing, but it is powerful. The wolf with nothing to lose is dangerous. Dangerous like no air to breathe is dangerous. He would suck the marrow from their bones and leave them hollow.
He padded to the water's edge and splash a paw in the surf. He let the last reflection of the setting moon twinkle in his wolf's eye as it rounded into his human one.
On the way to work that morning, after a shower and a thin breakfast, he concocted a cowardly, cunning, and most of all, human plan...
