Russian-owned Porsche vehicles intentionally bricked?

Hundreds of #Porsche vehicles across #Russia have suddenly became unusable overnight after a failure of the factory satellite-linked security system. Reports from owners and Russia’s largest Porsche dealer, the Rolf Group, describe the cars completely refusing to start, fuel delivery being halted, or the #keyless-entry/alarm system locking people out.

The apparent cause is a loss of #satellite #connectivity to Porsche’s Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), which automatically immobilises the engine if the signal is lost. Mechanics report disconnecting satellite modules revives some cars after hours of battery resets, but others stay dead. The sudden nationwide #outage has led to speculation - though no confirmed evidence - of possible deliberate satellite interference.

We seriously need vehicles that are not connected to internet. They will be a lot cheaper to make and it would be even better if we can have open source hardware for the cars.
