Para el año 2018, comencé a vivir un frenesí por comprar equipos de grabación, audio e iluminación con el fin de ir armando, poco a poco, un pequeño equipo audiovisual porque sabía que lo iba a necesitar para la Universidad y otros proyectos personales que quería comenzar a materializar tan pronto tuviese el dinero en mis manos.

By the year 2018, I began to live a frenzy to buy recording, audio and lighting equipment in order to gradually put together a small audiovisual equipment because I knew that I was going to need it for the University and other personal projects that I wanted. start materializing as soon as I had the money in my hands.

Me estaba yendo bien en el trabajo en el que estaba y por eso decidí comenzar a buscar online todos los aparatos básicos que se necesitaban para empezar a armar mi pequeño estudio de grabación en casa. Por primera vez inicié comprando online ese año a través de "MercadoLibre Venezuela" y ahí fue donde todo ocurrió.

I was doing well in the job I was in and that's why I decided to start looking online for all the basic equipment that was needed to start putting together my little recording studio at home. For the first time I started buying online that year through "MercadoLibre Venezuela" and that's where it all happened.

La primera estafa:

The first scam:

Buscando por primera vez micrófonos de bala para grabaciones de video más profesionales me dirigí a "MercadoLibre" por recomendación de muchas personas y aunque no tenía experiencia comprando ahí, igual decidí hacerlo pero no estuve al pendiente como debía haber estado. La vendedora parecía bastante normal, tenía buena reputación pero pocos eran los que dejaban un comentario recomendándola y como estaba en la misma ciudad que yo, el envío no iba a ser tan caro, así que me fui por esa opción.

Looking for bullet microphones for more professional video recordings for the first time, I went to "MercadoLibre" on the recommendation of many people and although I had no experience buying there, I still decided to do it but I was not as aware as I should have been. . The seller seemed quite normal, she had a good reputation but few left a comment recommending her and since she was in the same city as me, shipping was not going to be that expensive, so I went for that option.

Acordamos el método de pago, el envío y todo iba bien, hasta que me dice, luego de haber concretado de venta y hecho el pago, que mi envío se iba a demorar unos días porque se estaba mudando de local y no tenía el tiempo para hacer el envío sino luego de que terminara de mudar su negocio a un nuevo local. Yo decidí dejar la compra en espera de que ella terminara de mudarse; pero la mudanza se tardó más de lo que me dijo que sería.

We agreed on the payment method, the shipping and everything was going well, until he told me, after having finalized the sale and made the payment, that my shipment was going to take a few days because he was moving from the premises and did not have the time to make the shipment until after you finished moving your business to a new location. I decided to leave the purchase waiting for her to finish moving; but the move took longer than she told me it would.

Pasada una semana (o más, no lo recuerdo exactamente), MercadoLibre me envía un correo pidiéndome que califique mi compra del micrófono de balita y yo bien molesto en ese momento, decidí mencionar mi disgusto y mi perdida de tiempo al esperar un producto por el cual pagué y nunca me llegó. Logré comunicarme con la vendedora pero ésta nunca me respondió ni se hizo responsable por el dinero ni mucho menos por el producto. Dejé mi mala recomendación y pude ver después que muchas otras personas habían sufrido lo mismo que yo. Fuimos estafados por esta persona con productos que no tenía o no estaba vendiendo.

After a week (or more, I don't remember exactly), MercadoLibre sends me an email asking me to rate my purchase of the bullet microphone and I was very upset at that moment, I decided to mention my disgust and my waste of time waiting for a product for which I paid and never arrived. I managed to communicate with the seller but she never answered me nor did she take responsibility for the money, much less for the product. I left my bad recommendation and was able to see later that many other people had suffered the same as me. We were scammed by this person with products that she did not have or was not selling.

Luego de ese momento, fui con otra vendedora para adquirir el mismo micrófono de balita y la compra fue todo un éxito. Me salió casi al mismo precio que el que había pagado y que nunca recibí. Esa fue mi primera mala experiencia pero también fue mi primera compra exitosa en MercadoLibre.

After that moment, I went to another seller to buy the same bullet microphone and the purchase was a complete success. It came out for almost the same price as the one I had paid and never received. That was my first bad experience but it was also my first successful purchase at MercadoLibre.

La segunda estafa:

The second scam:

Con la segunda estafa también me ocurrió lo mismo, el mismo año pero diferente estafadora. Quería adquirir un trípode para una cámara que había comprado (mi primera cámara) y conseguí uno bastante bueno, a un precio inferior al que había conseguido en Amazon y el cual ya iba a comprar y traerlo hasta Venezuela, pero me quedé con la opción de comprarlo por MercadoLibre, a pesar de mi primera mala experiencia.

The same thing happened to me with the second scam, the same year but a different scammer. I wanted to buy a tripod for a camera that I had bought (my first camera) and I got a pretty good one, at a lower price than the one I had gotten on Amazon and which I was already going to buy and bring it to Venezuela , but I kept the option to buy it for MercadoLibre, despite my first bad experience.

En las fotos del producto, todo parece estar bien con el trípode, incluso estaba en su caja original y casi sin usar, se podía ver que estaba prácticamente nuevo. Me comuniqué con la vendedora y decidí comprar el trípode. Todo salió excelente, no hubo inconveniente alguno. Recibí el producto una tarde y me apresuré a casa para abrirlo y comenzar a utilizarlo tan pronto pudiera. Al abrir el paquete, me doy cuenta de que el falta una pieza, la "zapata", sin esa pieza, el trípode es casi inservible.

From the product photos, everything seems to be fine with the tripod, even it was in its original box and almost unused, you could see it was practically new. I contacted the seller and decided to buy the tripod. Everything went great, there was no problem. I received the product one afternoon and rushed home to open it up and start using it as soon as I could. When I open the package, I realize that a piece is missing, the "shoe", without that piece, the tripod is almost useless.

Tan pronto recibo el producto me comunico con la vendedora y le pregunto sobre la pieza que falta y me dice que ella estaba segura que esa pieza estaba dentro del empaque, que lo más seguro es que se haya perdido durante el re-empaquetado que hizo la empresa de envíos, que la disculpara pero que ella no podía hacer nada por eso. Yo le comenté que en la foto se ve que la pieza estaba ahí pero que solo aparecía en una solo foto, ella siguió insistiendo en que no era su culpa.

As soon as I receive the product, I contact the seller and ask her about the missing piece and she tells me that she was sure that this piece was inside the packaging, that it was most likely lost during the repackaging that the shipping company, to excuse her but she couldn't do anything about it. I told her that in the photo you can see that the piece was there but that it only appeared in one photo, she kept insisting that it wasn't her fault.

Al final, terminó diciéndome que ella tenía varios amistades en Estados Unidos que podían comprar por allá la pieza que le hacía falta al trípode y que ella les pediría que se la trajeran cuando ellos vinieran a Venezuela ese mismo año. Yo bien confiado le dije que la pieza no se conseguía por Amazon y que lo mejor que podía hacer era ir directamente a una tienda física allá y ver si tenía esa pieza disponible para comprar individual. Ella me aseguró que lo haría y que no sería pagado por mí sino que ella iba a correr con todos los gastos. Intercambiamos números de teléfonos y nunca más supe de ella ni de la pieza que faltaba en el trípode que le compré.

In the end, she ended by telling me that she had several friends in the United States who could buy the part that the tripod needed there and that she would ask them to bring it to her when they came to Venezuela that same year. I confidently told her that the piece was not available through Amazon and that the best thing she could do was go directly to a physical store there and see if she had that piece available to buy individually. She assured me that she would do it and that it would not be paid by me but that she would bear all the expenses. We exchanged phone numbers and I never heard from her again or the missing part of the tripod I bought her.

Estas fueron solo 2 experiencias personales que pudieron haber creado en mi cierto temor de continuar comprando online, especialmente en MercadoLibre, pero no lo hizo. Creo que hay mucha gente con integridad y responsabilidad vendiendo online, no solo a través de MercadoLibre, sino por Facebook Marketplace, Instagram, entre otros; solo hay que cuidarse bien y estar siempre alerta a señales que tal vez no estén a simple vista.

These were just 2 personal experiences that could have created my certain fear of continuing to shop online, especially at MercadoLibre, but it didn't. I think there are many people with integrity and responsibility selling online, not only through MercadoLibre, but through Facebook Marketplace, Instagram, among others; You just have to take good care of yourself and always be alert to signs that may not be in plain sight.

Vivimos en un mundo de maldad, es una realidad inmutable, pero hay quienes aún por medio de internet hacen prosperar un negocio trabajando con integridad y dedicación. Mi experiencia no tiene que ser la tuya, pero si puede servirte de algo lo que me ha pasado, no dudes en ponerlo en práctica para que no caigas donde yo caí.
