Life and death situation: [WEEK 143]

Almost 10 years ago, on a Sunday, Mother's Day, I was leaving my job and heading to catch a bus home. That day I left work at 6 pm and left in a hurry because on Sundays public transportation is quite scarce, I hurried to the bus stop to not miss the last bus straight home.

Even though it was Sunday and Mother's Day, there were a lot of people outside at that time of the afternoon, the bus had barely arrived when I got to the bus stop so I was one of the first ones to get on it. As soon as 3 more people got on, abruptly, two men of about 36 or 38 years old approximately, approached me saying: "Do you know who we are?", I immediately answered that I did not know who they were, they kept asking me over and over again if I knew who they were and my answer remained the same.

By the time they kept asking me the same question over and over again, the people who were already on the bus started to get off fast and since the driver was not sitting in front of the steering wheel, they decided to get off quickly leaving me with these 2 complete strangers asking me questions that I did not understand, I was literally paralyzed in the seat I was in; I did not recognize them at all.

After asking me those questions, they started asking me about my belongings, they asked me to open my bag (looking for any valuables, but they found nothing) and my lunch bag, but I have nothing valuable with me, so they started saying to each other "he has nothing, let's kill him".

I knew what was happening but I could not do anything, physically. They were 2 men bigger than me so I couldn't face them, so I just sat there waiting for the worst; all this happened in a matter of seconds, if maybe it all happened in 3 minutes it was too much. One of them, when saying "let's kill him" (referring to me), started to take out of his back some weapon that I didn't manage to see because just at that moment, the bus driver came in to see what was happening.

As soon as he started to ask "what was going on here?" to the two men who were trying to rob me or kill me, they started to talk incoherently and to move away from me step by step, I was watching everything as if it was a movie, something unreal, those two men left through the back of the bus, almost running and without saying anything else to me.

The driver kindly approached me and asked me how I was and if he had hurt me or if he had stolen anything from me, to which I answered no, then the other passengers who alerted the driver about what was happening on the bus took their seats again and I was silent all the way home, trying to process what had happened. As soon as I got home, I started to wake up from the shock I was in, I was about to be hurt or killed by those two men.

Maybe their intention was not to kill me, maybe they just wanted to intimidate me to rob me, but I have no doubt that they wanted to do me some kind of harm and thank God they didn't succeed. They were difficult months for me after that day, every time I had to return home and take the bus at that same bus stop, I was terrified to do so, so I opted to pay a taxi to home and avoid going to that place again. Eventually I had to do it but I no longer felt that fear of doing it as I did in the beginning.

I never saw those two men again in my life, I hope they didn't hurt anyone.
