I completely agree with you, the ending is just bad (for me) and I personally feel it interrupts the message of the film a bit

The ending doesn't really make much sense, the resolution of the Beast issue is pretty meh (technically it's resolved just because) but everything else is pretty good.
I made a post about this movie a while back and I said just that, it just makes a staring war with the kid's dad and that's it, it just goes away and we are not told anything about their situation nor do you see the authorities following up on the case, aarrgh.
