My Thought On The Current Election Process In Nigeria

Hello everyone, this is my entry for the weekly engagement on Hivenaija. Three and half years have passed since Nigeria conducted its general Presidential elections and I have to say m, it has got to be the worst three and half years I have ever witnessed with the present government. Insecurity is on the high side, human life has no value anymore, an increase in the unemployment rate, still, a struggle to produce an adequate power supply and the economy of the country is just a mess.

Currently, some campaigns are going on for the political party's primary elections, and a lot of candidates have emerged and are contesting to become the face of their political party in the coming general election taking place next year in May 2023.

What I have seen on the news and on Twitter made me understand clearly that all politicians are jokers. It's funny and annoying at the same time. These politicians don't show up to meet the public while they are in office, but come out during the election period and start acting like Saints, smiling and engaging in conversation with the public.

Some even go as far as sharing money and donating food supplies to people, there was a picture I saw on Twitter where the governor of Lagos state went into a hairstylist shop and started making a customer's hair, the funny thing is that he could not style the hair properly but why did he go through all that stress when he knows it isn't his jurisdiction.

The vice president of Nigeria was also seen sitting and eating the same portion of food given to primary school students in a school, that wasn't enough, another politician I don't even care to remember his name was spotted hawking for a commercial trader on the roadside. Some may take it as a joke but these guys know what they are after, once they get to power you will never see them on the streets and all the money spent during their campaign will be made twice back during their period in office.

The choice is left to us to decide who we want in power, and who will rebuild this nation, that is why we need to vote. There are still some people who think our vote doesn't count if it doesn't politicians won't come out and start acting all goody two shoes for the public to see, let's be wise so we don't have to go through another horrible tenor.

So guys I will stop here, thanks for taking your time to go through this post, cheers.

I agree with you. We all need to come out to vote especially the youth. If we are too scared to do it, we'll have to live with the wrong people being in power which will definitely affect us all. Also I'm starting to develop interest in politics primarily because that's a medium through which nations are governed amd I'd like to encourage our youth pick interest in this because it's one powerful tool with which we can use to bring positive changes to our nation Nigeria, and the world. We must be the change! Thank you for sharing dear.

Indeed. Desperate measures are taken in desperate times. Unfortunately for Nigeria, she has leaders whom this saying suits perfectly

You are right about that, we also have to be careful, if we make a mistake in the upcoming election, Nigeria may not survive.

Nice one from you. The populace are only important to the politicians during elections. I am tired of the process. Let's give it a try again.

And many people still believe our vote does not count, I was explaining to a friend of my on why we need to vote but he still strongly believes that if he votes nothing won't change. The system has corrupted individual minds.

Well that sucks and oddly sounds so familiar to politicians in Suriname. I'm not saying all are rotten apples, but most are there for their own gain and agendas, while the majority of the public is living in poverty.

I don't even bother to remember all the Minister's names as I used to in school. It's sad actually.

The people's needs are not important to them anymore, their goal is just to make themselves richer, it's hard to point out the good from the bad, I just hope for a better country. Thanks for your support.

I'm also still hoping that it'll one day get better and that the rotten apples make place for those who truly are working for the countrymen.

...it's hard to point out the good from the bad,...

Same here or it's a matter of choosing one of the lesser evils 😌.

There is really nothing that can be changed in their behaviours only the person. The same characteristics run in all their veins. We voting is just to choose between the devil and the red sea..both are dangerous but we are looking for the one which is a little bit less harmful than the other. Or perhaps, in this case, those who we think will benefit us a little when they get there,!!

I still think Nigeria can still work, during this primary rally, I have sported an individual which in my own opinion would be better for this country.
