Barcelona Champions League Defeat

The Uefa Champions League came to a start yesterday. It was nice to watch the different teams from different leagues in Europe compete for the title.

I am particularly interested in Group E and that's because of FC Barcelona. Other teams in Group E include: Bayern Munich, Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv

Last night Barça took on Bayern Munich at Camp Nou. This was Barça's first champions league match in a long time without their former star man Lionel Messi who left for PSG in the transfer window.

To be honest, I did not expect Barça to win last night's game. I think they have lost their confidence since the departure of Messi, and other key players. Grizemann is currently on a loan to Atletico Madrid, Ansu Fati and Dembele on an injury.

The first half came to life, Bayern brought their A-game on. They kept attacking with every chance they got. Barcelona was poor going forward. They lost their composure and I was so disappointed because they weren't playing well.

35minutes Leroy Sane from Bayern set a pass to Thomas Muller who took a shot for a long-distance which was deflected into the Barça net to give Bayern the lead, Bayern carried a 0-1 lead in the first half.

The second half resumed. I was hoping Barça would bring their A-game in the second half but that was not the case. 11 minutes later Musiala from Bayern took a shot but the ball hit the crossbar and rebound then Lewandowski saw the opportunity and took it. He scored the goal to give Bayern a 2 goal lead against Barça.

Barcelona could not get a shot on target and found it difficult to keep up with Bayern. Lewandowski again gave his side a 3 goal lead against Barça. A good pass for Serge Gnabry to set Lewandowski for the strike.

It wasn't a good night for Barça, the fans were not happy, some vented their anger on Sergi Roberto. Roberto should not be blamed. He tried to blend in with the position he was given to play.

According to ESPN, this is what Koman(FC Barcelona Manager) had to say about the game. "I can't complain about the team's attitude, but there's a quality difference. One team that has played together for a long time [against] us, with a lot of young players who in two, three years will be better. It's really difficult to accept, but we hope to improve things and to get people back from injuries.

There are players aged 19, 20. If you compare that with what Bayern has, it's a huge difference. The difference will get smaller in time."

I hope he's right about that. I am hoping all the injured players return soon and Barcelona gets their confidence back. I know they get back up.

The Champions League isn't over yet, still more excitement to come especially from PSG. Messi will be making his debut in the Champions League with the PSG Jersey. I hope you don't miss it, see you later cheers.
