I Will Always Be A Learner

Yesterday, I was going through different communities on Hive. As a newbie, I was extremely overwhelmed. You know how it goes; new place, new rules, new perspectives, infact everything new. One thing that I realized, the day I signed up of Hive was that I need to broaden my horizons. There's so much here waiting for me, I just need to stay focused, on the right path and patient.

To get the hang of the things, I started reading rules and regulations of communities in here. Starting off with the OCD, I found @erikah's posts at the top. It was a newbie guide which I needed desperately. After having a little chat with her, I headed to her profile and read her latest blog. She had posted about her visit to church in the very community. You can read it here

It was from here I got to know about this community and the type of content posted in here. Photography is a very unique skill which I believe needs to be learned and mastered with time. Not everyone with a camera can be a good photographer untill and unless he/she gives a fair share of his time and concentration on this skill. There are a lot of ways you can differentiate between an amateur and a professional photographers ofcourse. The basic things being the alignment of the pictures, the contrast, the moment and alot of other stuff.

As an amateur photographer myself, the most important thing that I consider while taking a photo is the moment. The moment has to be perfect. It's easier said than done. What's a perfect moment? You're capturing the sky, a small bird in the corner of the portrait could be a cherry on the top. Capturing the moon from the right angle could significantly improve your photograph. Partially hiding the sun behind a tall building, so you do not get direct rays in your lens but also get the right amount of brightness that you need from the Sun.

I love taking photos of random building and taking random photos of building that I see on daily basis with different angles and different perspectives. In this post, I'll be covering an event that I organized over the weekend. It was the biggest dental conference of the year and I took some pictures of the university it was being held in. I took a lot of photos, standing infront of it, changing my angles to get the perfect shot. It was always something that would ruin the photo. A passerby who got in the picture, the sun ruining the quality and even getting a picture straight. But I kept on taking pictures untill I started getting some good shots. The most important thing was patience. Let me show you a few pictures that I think were a lot better than the ones that preceded them. Ofcourse they aren't perfect but I'm enthusiastic to learn more and get better and better.

This is the main campus of our university in which the Congress was held. Recently, it was renovated so it looks more aesthetically appealing.

I tried to cover all the three aspects of this architecture in my frame. The 2nd picture is the one I originally took and then edited to make it look better. The alignment was a little out but it was the best of all the pictures that I took before this one. One more thing to notice in these pictures is the amount of clarity in the letters 'JSMU' written on the building. The original picture has a bit of opacity but the one I worked upon has a prominent contrast making the JSMU even clearer.

I tried to take a background shot as well in which the building wasn't the main focus, instead there was another object that I wanted my lens to focus on, capturing the building in the background.

I toned this picture up to make it clearer. Posting the original one so that you can compare both.

The most prominent issue that I face on regular basis while taking pictures is to capture the perfect moment. Even in this picture, you can see that there are people who kind of ruined the picture. Apart from that, the editing has to be perfect as well. There needs to be the right amount of contrast with a sweet pinch of vignette. As I mentioned above as well, photography is an art itself and it needs to be practiced regularly.

There's something that I'd also like to mention. In a third world country like Pakistan or any other nation where the mindset is wrong at the root level. A kid is only motivated or forced to become a Doctor or an Engineer. Due to this, the love for art, photography, painting, dancing and all those things that add color to our life started to die out slowly. Thankfully, the new generation has taken matters into their own hands and have started doing all sorts of things, breaking all sorts of stereotypes but I think, it will take a lot more time to completely adapt to it.

Coming back to the photographs, you can see, I have pointed out the people in this picture which I believe could have been improved. An architectural picture, in which you're focusing on something specific shouldn't have any other objects in it which can potentially ruin the phoo. But, I'm learning and hopefully, I'll be better at it. One more thing to notice in the picture is the contrast of the card I'm holding. There's a huge difference which has made me a bit happy.

On the same date, at night we had another event. I took this opportunity to capture a perfect frame. Once again it took me countless times to get a good frame. That's the difference between someone taking photographs from a professional camera and someone like me from a cell phone.

This picture in particular is the one O played with the most. I have spent around an hour editing all these pictures to achieve perfection through a lot of different tools. Let's look at what I have achieved.

I tried the vignette and the contrasting differently while working on this photo. The main focus of this photo was the arrangement of lights portrayed in it. By adding further darkness in the surroundings, I think it looks even more prominent. What do you think?

I know, these are nowhere near perfect but I have developed an interesting sort of liking for pictures now. The posts I have seen in this community have motivated me a lot to pay much more attention to the minute details in every picture and hopefully in time, I'll be good at it.
