Change: The Terrifying Concept We Have To Accept

Change The terrifying Concept We Have To Accept.png

Change is the only consistent thing in the world.

Quite an ironic statement, right? How can change be the only consistent thing in the world and in our lives? Well, let me elaborate.

We tend to think we are all living the same routine every single day. We wake up, eat, work, sleep and wake up again. And yes, that is technically true, but think about the changes from yesterday.

Yesterday, you woke up at 7 A.M now you woke up at 8:30 A.M. Yesterday you ate eggs for breakfast, now you are eating hotdogs.

Where am I going with this? What I'm trying to elaborate is that change is everywhere; we just don't notice it.

Even the world around us is constantly changing; Most of us think that our planet stays the same every day, but the truth is, our planet changes its position every second as it revolves around the sun. Even our universe is continuously expanding and evolving; this also applies to our lives. But it just depends if we're accepting enough to integrate this change into our lives.

I am a person who very much likes consistency. I don't like it when things change, I feel uneasy, and it makes me anxious. But as time passed by, it made me realize the beauty of change.

A change that I can see very clearly is in my food preferences.

In the past, I have been really choosy regarding food; I don't like to try new foods and tend to stick to my personal choice of foods. When I was just in first grade, we always had eggs for breakfast, and I liked it. One day, we ran out of eggs. We had to eat tocino for breakfast; my sister was happy because she tasted something different, but I was infuriated.

I begged my father to buy eggs, but we were running late, and I had to eat, so I did. And I was surprised; it actually tasted great. This was one of my instances when I accepted change, and it paid off.

Another is during my high school years, every time we would go out to restaurants, I would order the same exact thing, fried chicken. I grew accustomed to the taste of fried chicken. I didn't bother to try out any other food on the menu.

Now, because my girlfriend and I often go out to eat, I had the opportunity to try out new foods and I absolutely loved it. I now enjoy sisig, grilled tunas, and even desserts like mango floats and ice cream, which I absolutely despised in the past.

Change can also be seen in my music taste. I like to listen to the same sets of songs every day, and although I had tons of music on my phone, there were only 6-8 songs I would constantly loop because I liked them so much. And now, I ventured to other genres of music such as R&B, K-POP, and even OST's to certain K-dramas, I know, right? Hahaha. I especially like Ost's from Scarlet Heart.

Nothing indeed is permanent in the world.

Even our mindsets change over time. The more we learn about the world and the people around us, the more we change and improve.

Change is simply a natural thing for us humans to have and use to better adapt to our environment and ultimately make our lives better one way or another.

I still have trouble with change in some aspects of my life, I still like some things to stay consistent, but I am learning to accept change more and more into my life.

To anyone who has the same issue as me, it's perfectly fine. It took me how many years to break free from the chains of stagnancy. I hope you can also accept changes in your life and ultimately integrate them into your life one day.

Change is a terrifying concept, something that most of us tend to run away from. But once you accept it, it is something beautiful and gives a different sense of satisfaction.

Change is simply a natural thing for us humans to have and use to better adapt to our environment and ultimately make our lives better one way or another.

As what the famous Heraclitus said, Change is the only constant thing in the world and I truly believe this. It's up to us how we embrace it and not be stagnant get out of our comfort zone.

Good write up, Carlos!
