Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego endless blue skies and endless mountain forests. [ENG] / La Patagonia y la Tierra del Fuego, cielos azules e interminables bosques de montaña. [ESP]

When we visit Patagonia and enter its territory as far as Tierra del Fuego, with its capital Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, the first thing that strikes us is the colour of the sky in this endless steppe: perennially blue.

Especially in summer, when it is already daylight at 5 a.m. and only gets dark at 10 p.m., this sky and this colour accompany you all day long, demonstrating the smallness of the human being and magnifying the spectacular mountain landscape that surrounds us: lakes, forests of all kinds of conifers and native and endemic species of the Andean region on one side and the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean on the other side.

The incomparable beauty of this landscape contrasts with the changeability of its climate, unpredictable, defying the laws of nature's climate, it can go from bearing a scorching heat, dry, not oppressive because the humidity is very low, but that stings strongly on the human skin to icy winds coming from the South Pole, almost hurricane-force winds that hit your face and make you feel their strength, lifting in the air the gravel of the numerous secondary dirt roads that exist in this region.

At times you can lose sight of that wonderful sky, which is usually filled with clouds, but suddenly, as if by magic, you find it again, majestically, immensely blue. Stretching out in a boundless maritime horizon or falling behind the snow-capped peaks of the Andean Cordillera like a blue curtain over the spectacular lakes of the Andean region.

Taking a trip to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego is like recalling the stories of an explorer and adventurer who knew it very well, Bruce Chatwin when he said: "...in Patagonia you feel like a spectator of the extremity, but you can rarely immerse yourself in its life, because its life no longer exists: the legendary Patagonians who resisted the cold with their bare skin have become extinct, the few Argentines who live there have been there for no more than three generations and have brought with them the cultural baggage of their place of origin...".

A harsh land, therefore, arid and extreme, of a natural beauty that leaves the traveller in awe, dominated by nature and the climate which, more than a framework, becomes the main theme of the whole area, and to which it gives all its marvellous charm.

Cuando visitamos la Patagonia y nos adentramos en su territorio hasta llegar hasta Tierra del Fuego, con su capital Ushuaia, la ciudad más austral del mundo, lo que primero que nos sorprende es el color del cielo en esa estepa interminable: perennemente azul.

Especialmente de verano cuando ya es de dia a las 5 de la mañana y recién oscurece a las 22:00 horas ese cielo y ese color te acompañan durante todo el dia demostrando la pequeñez del ser humano y agigantando la espectacularidad del paisaje cordillerano que nos rodea: lagos, bosques de todo tipo de coníferas y especies nativas y endémicas de la región andina de una lado y del otro lado la inmensidad del Océano Atlántico.

La incomparable belleza de este paisaje contrasta con lo cambiante de su clima, imprevisible, desafiando las leyes climáticas de la naturaleza, puede pasar de soportar un calor abrasador, seco, no agobiante porque la humedad es muy baja, pero que escuece fuertemente en la piel humana a vientos gélidos procedentes del Polo Sur, vientos casi huracanados que te golpean la cara y te hacen sentir su fuerza, levantando en el aire la grava de los numerosos caminos secundarios de tierra que existen en esta región.

Extendiéndose en un horizonte marítimo sin limites o cayendo a pico por detrás de las cumbres nevadas de la Cordillera de los Andes como si fuera un telón azul sobre los espectaculares lagos de la comarca andina.

Hacer un viaje a la Patagonia y a la Tierra del Fuego es como volver a recordar los relatos que un explorador y aventurero que la conoció muy bien, Bruce Chatwin al decir: "...en la Patagonia te sientes como un espectador de la extremidad, pero rara vez puedes sumergirte en su vida, porque su vida ya no existe: los legendarios patagones que resistían el frío con la piel desnuda se han extinguido, los pocos argentinos que viven allí no llevan más de tres generaciones y han traído consigo el bagaje cultural de su lugar de origen..."

Una tierra dura, pues, árida y extrema, de una belleza natural que deja asombrado al viajero, dominada por la naturaleza y el clima que, más que un marco, se convierte en el tema principal de toda la zona, y a la que le dona todo su encanto maravilloso.
