Gwen Cummings (who is a young reporter) and her boyfriend Jasper lead a life of excess in which alcohol and drugs are commonplace.

On the day of her sister Lily's wedding, she arrives drunk, causes an accident and wrecks the limousine she hired for the occasion. The police arrive, arrest her and on the day of the trial the judge sentences her to spend 20 days in a rehabilitation centre, hence the name of the film.

In the rehabilitation centre she has to live with intoxicants and drug addicts perhaps at a much higher stage than her own, but seeing this sad and depressing reality Qwen refuses to accept the reality (that she is addicted to drugs and especially an alcoholic) and rejects all kinds of treatment.

Not only does she refuse all therapies (individual and group) but she absolutely refuses to participate in any recreational activity and tries by all means to procure the drug or any other strong stimulant within the same health structure.

When he fails to do so, he tries to run away but is caught by the guards of the detoxification centre. The practice in these cases is that she is immediately sent to prison. He manages to convince Mayor Cornell not to do so by promising him to try to get better and change his life.

In this disconcerting period of her life she calls her sister Lily, but she refuses to visit her.

Gradually, after getting to know everyone in the clinic, she realises that no two people are the same, as they all have different levels of addiction (Andrea, for example, is a 17-year-old drug addict who self-harms) and begins to rethink her own life, accepting her mistakes and realising that she has a serious problem, which, if she does not find a solution immediately, could have disastrous consequences in the future.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend Jasper does not want to give up his lifestyle and presses for her to leave the detox centre as soon as possible to return to her old life, which begins to complicate their relationship.

As she begins to integrate into the routine of the detox centre, she meets Eddie, an ex-player close to retirement from his sporting career, has a lively argument with Jasper (later they will break up for good) and sees that some patients are starting to leave when they complete their detox period.

Andrea, the 17-year-old, has just come out and injects herself with a drug overdose and dies.

Gwen spends her last days in the detox centre exchanging ideas with Eddie about how to cope with life outside the walls and finally gets out, resumes her life, reconciles with her sister and returns home.

I thought this was an excellent film that discusses a very important problem that a lot of people face and Sandra's performance was excellent in it. I know several people whose lives have been ruined by addiction and unfortunately most of them didn't have happy endings like in this story.

Definitely worth seeing.

It is a mixture of drama with a certain amount of humour to de-dramatise a problem that is becoming more and more serious.

I think the biggest lesson of the film is how some people take (light) drugs as a hobby without giving it any importance until they fall into addiction.
