Tug-of-war - Tirar y aflojar

At some point in my life, it was quite common to hear the expression “they are in a game of tug-of-war” to indicate that two people or entities were negotiating or perhaps playing to see who would give up their claims about something. This expression is no longer often heard, although negotiations and disputes are found in every area of daily life.

Something similar happens with the issue of cryptocurrency regulations: the greater the interest in regulating them, the faster projects appear that go in the opposite direction.

A short time ago, the existence of a virtual wallet called MyEtherWallet (MEW) was known that does not require information from the so-called KYC (know your customer), a requirement demanded by the financial regulatory agencies of many countries for all the activities under its orbit, to be able to convert crypto assets into fiat money.

The KYC regulations are designed to prevent fraud and money laundering, a laudable reason, although we all know that this type of crime not only exists but also grows day by day despite the efforts of the regulatory entities and the agencies in charge of investigating them. On the other hand, it is not an invention that arose with cryptocurrencies but has already existed practically since the creation of the world economic, monetary and financial system in the way we know it today. I say this because many critics of cryptocurrencies want us to believe that one of the great problems of this technology is precisely fraud and money laundering as if these crimes were their exclusive responsibility.

As there are still no major regulations on cryptocurrencies, this type of requirement can be avoided, at least that is how those responsible for the Swiss firm Bity have understood it, who through this MEW wallet they offer fiat integration without KYC.

Excellent initiative, we hope that it can last over time, in the meantime, we enjoy the freedom to dispose of our assets in the way that occurs to us.

Gran abrazo
