Salmon or bitcoin? - Salmón o bitcoin?
Obviously, the crisis is global, in all countries, there are problems, some small and solvable, in others huge, and with a possible way out to a general catastrophe of its economy. The latter is what is happening here in my country.
As if the economic hardships were not enough, politics also have a decisive influence and the ruling coalition is in the midst of an internal fight fueled by the defeat in the mid-term elections. To this are added the contrary ideas of the powerful vice president and the incumbent president, elected by the former with just a tweet.
We all knew that he was only there because the rejection generated by the current vice president was superior to his positive image, so he needs someone with more moderate features to deceive the indecisive population and he succeeded, but the water was mixed with oil and after a small period they separated as the laws of nature indicate.
Now everything is chaos and the inflation that had been rising month after month seems to have shot up out of control. On Saturday the economy minister resigned and that seems to have been a coup de grace to the already weak measures to contain it. Chilean salmon, an almost essential component for the preparation of sushi, a very fashionable food in the country, doubled its price in just one day, similar to what bitcoin achieved in its best days.
I should have bought salmon on Friday or perhaps oil, which also raised its price, although the modest 30% does not reach the percentage increase of the tasty fish that is grown in aquatic farms in the beautiful fjords in the south of the sister country of Chile.
Evidentemente la crisis es mundial, en todos los países hay problemas, en algunos pequeños y solucionables, en otros enormes y con posible salida a una hecatombe generalizada de su economía. Esto último es lo que está ocurriendo aquí en mi país.
Como si fueran pocas las penurias económicas, también las políticas influyen decididamente y la coalición gobernante está en medio de una pelea interna potenciada por la derrota en las elecciones de medio término. A eso se le suman las ideas contrarias de la poderosa vicepresidente y el presidente en ejercicio, elegido por la anterior tan solo con un tuit. Todos sabíamos que solo estaba ahí porque el rechazo que genera la actual vicepresidente era superior a su imagen positiva por lo que necesita a alguien de rasgos más moderados para engañar a la población indecisa y lo logró, pero se mezcló agua con aceite y luego de un pequeño período se separaron como las leyes de la naturaleza lo indican.
Ahora todo es caos y la inflación que venía subiendo mes a mes parece haberse disparado sin control, el sábado renunció el ministro de economía y eso parece haber sido un golpe de gracia a las ya endebles medidas para contenerla. El salmón chileno, un componente casi imprescindible para la elaboración del sushi, una comida muy de moda en el país, duplicó su precio en tan solo un día, parecido a lo que logró el bitcoin en sus mejores días.
Tendría que haber comprado salmón el viernes o aceite quizás, que también subió su precio, aunque el módico 30% no llega al porcentaje de aumento del sabroso pez que se cultiva en las granjas acuáticas en los bellos fiordos del sur del hermano país de Chile.
