Old but valid methods - viejos métodos aun vigentes
Many years ago, more than I would like to admit, I worked in a state bank that was sold to private companies in times of a privatization government, and had better luck than another that was directly closed forever.
At that time I was among the group of lower-ranking officials, just for the fact that I had a salary similar to that of those people who directed some sector within the enormous institution, mine was only so that the bank could pay the salaries of professionals of information technology on a similar scale to what the labor market dictated.
Because I was a civil servant, one day promoters from a leading international bank appeared to offer me a package that included a current account, a savings account, and credit cards. At that time debit cards were not yet in common use like they are now. At that time they offered me to add to their automatic debit the payment of services such as water, electricity, gas, and municipal taxes, which I agreed to. A serious mistake that cost me a lot of trouble precisely with the gas company when they sent me a letter informing me of the non-payment of several months, the bank deducted it from me, and the company never received the money. That made me distrust automatic debits for many years and only recently have I accepted that some of them be deducted from me, mainly because the systems have changed a lot since then, although there are always some inconveniences, at least now you can enter the website and check, at that time everything was more traditional, so much so that I myself had to spend a lot of time tracking down and obtaining copies of receipts, account statements and endless paperwork in both institutions.
For a long time, there are companies that work based on franchises that collect taxes and services on small premises, it is something in disuse in a large part of the most developed countries, most are adhered to automatic debits or pay sitting comfortably in front of a computer in their homes or offices.
In countries like mine where the informal economy is close to 40% and bank users do not reach half of the population, this method helps keep up with the payment of obligations to those people who only handle cash, the banks got rid of it and these companies make a good profit judging by the number of establishments with that objective that exists everywhere.
The photographs that accompany this publication were obtained on the morning of this past Sunday, a cold autumn morning that is quickly giving way to winter. In the few blocks that I walked to buy some bread, I took three pictures of these places, of course, closed on a holiday but every business day there are queues of people at the door waiting their turn to pay.
An old and outdated method in several countries of paying with cash. Here the government of the city of Buenos Aires is about to implement a form of payment with cryptocurrencies, an interesting initiative, although still of low incidence.

Muchos años atrás, más de los que quisiera reconocer, trabajaba en un banco del estado que en épocas de un gobierno privatista fue vendido a empresas privadas, tuvo mejor suerte que otro que directamente se cerró para siempre.
Por ese entonces estaba entre el grupo de funcionarios de menor rango, solamente por el hecho de tener un sueldo similar al de esas personas que dirigían algún sector dentro de la enorme institución, el mío era solo para que el banco pudiera pagar sueldos de profesionales de la informática en similar escala a lo que el mercado laboral dictaba.
Por ser funcionario un buen día aparecieron promotores de un banco internacional de primera línea para ofrecerme un paquete que incluía cuenta corriente, caja de ahorros y tarjetas de crédito, en ese momento las tarjetas de débito aun no eran de uso corriente como ahora. En ese momento me ofrecieron adherir a su débito automático el pago de lo servicios tales como agua, electricidad, gas e impuestos municipales a lo cual accedí. Grave error que me costó un buen disgusto precisamente con la compañía de gas cuando me enviaron una carta para informarme de la falta de pago de varios meses, el banco me lo descontaba, la compañía jamás recibía el dinero. Eso hizo que por muchos años desconfiara de los débitos automáticos y recién en los últimos tiempos he aceptado que algunos me sean descontados, principalmente porque los sistemas han cambiado muchísimo desde ese momento, si bien siempre hay algún inconveniente, al menos ahora se puede entrar a la página web y verificar, en aquella época todo era más artesanal, tanto que yo mismo tuve que perder mucho tiempo en rastrear y obtener copias de los comprobantes, extractos de cuenta e interminables trámites en ambas instituciones.
Desde hace mucho tiempo hay empresas que trabajan en base a franquicias que cobran impuestos y servicios en pequeños locales, es algo en desuso en gran parte de los países más desarrollados, la mayoría está adherido a los débitos automáticos o pagan sentados cómodamente frente a una computadora en sus hogares u oficinas.
En países como el mío donde la economía informal está cerca del 40% y las personas bancarizadas no llegan a la mitad de la población, este método ayuda a mantenerse al día con el pago de las obligaciones a eses personas que solo manejan dinero en efectivo, los bancos se lo quitaron de encima y estas empresas hacen una buena ganancia a juzgar por la cantidad de locales con ese objetivo que existen en todas partes.
Las fotografías que acompañan esta publicación fueron obtenidas en la mañana de este domingo que pasó, una fría mañana de otoño que está rápidamente dejando paso al invierno. En pocas cuadras que caminé para comprar un poco de pan tomé tres fotografías de estos locales, por supuesto cerrados en un día feriado pero que cada día hábil tienen cola de personas en la puerta esperando su turno para abonar.
Un método antiguo y perimido en varios países de abonar con efectivo. Aquí el gobierno de la ciudad de Buenos Aires está a punto de implementar una forma de pago con criptomonedas, interesante iniciativa, aunque todavía de baja incidencia.
Por algo se debe comenzar.

I am sorry about that incident that made you hate automatic debits and transfers. I am glad that the story is different today because a large percentage of people depend on those automatic transmissions especially those who have monthly payments to make on their debts. As well as those who need automatic transfers to the savings accounts, investment portfolio, etc.
Yes, of course, it is an old and outdated story, anyway I used it only as an introduction to the subject of collection companies.
