Teaching little children about God - Part 12
In the last 2 lessons we looked at sin and how it separate us from God.
We saw that Adam and Eve sinned in paradise and how they suddenly saw that they were naked. Adam clothe them in leaves. God searched for them in the garden but they were hiding.
But God killed an animal, because there had to be a blood sacrifice as atonement for sins.
Atonement means to clean. Blood was needed to clean them from sin. God made them clothes of skin.
Since that time right through the Old Testament that was God's law to make good between Him and His people. This offering took place once a year in the Temple.
The Temple
Only the High Priest was allowed to go into the farthest part of the Temple to make the offering on behalf of all the Israelites. The Israelites were God chosen people. A High Priest was a man chosen by God as a go between God and the people.
Aaron was the High Priest at that time, let's read what the Bible says about this:
Aaron must take the goat that is for the Lord. And he must kill it. It is a sin offering. He must not kill the other goat. It is an atonement to the Lord. It will pay for the bad things that the people have done. It is to take away the people's punishment. He must send it away into the desert.’ This will make atonement for all the sins of Israel's people. This will make the Holy Place clean. Aaron must do the same for the Tent of Meeting. That is because the people have done bad things in the camp. The Tent of meeting is in the middle of the camp.
