Hive Needs Your Voice against Coingecko's Metrics

Dear Hive Community,

Today, I come to you with an important matter that requires our collective attention and action. As you may know, CoinGecko recently published a study on the top decentralized social media platforms in 2023. The report, based on data from Similarweb, examines average monthly unique visitors from January to April 2023.

Our beloved Hive community is included in the list, but unfortunately, we find ourselves lower in the ranks than we would expect. It's disappointing, given the vibrant and engaged community we have here. It's crucial to note that CoinGecko's methodology overlooks crucial aspects of our platform.

Moreover, the study categorizes several platforms as decentralized social media that many of us in the crypto and blockchain space would argue do not meet the criteria for true decentralization. This muddies the waters and can lead to misinterpretations of the data.

We have come to the knowledge of the tweet, thanks to @eddiespino's tweet about it

We firmly believe that Hive, with its robust and truly decentralized nature, deserves a higher ranking. The misrepresentation and underestimation of our platform in reports like this can significantly impact how Hive is perceived by potential users and investors.

We need to raise our voices and address this issue. Here's where you come in:

  1. Visit the tweet by CoinGecko announcing their report here.

  2. Leave a comment under the tweet or quote retweet, expressing your concern about the current ranking and CoinGecko's methodology. Please be polite but firm in your comments.

  3. Share your comments or retweets here on Hive. We will upvote comments that provide proof of your engagement on Twitter.

Remember, our strength lies in our community. It's time we leverage that strength to ensure Hive is accurately represented in the broader crypto and blockchain space. Together, we can make our voices heard and make a difference.

Thank you for your time and your commitment to Hive. Let's stand together for our platform.

We want to acknowledge our people that engaged on the tweet @hashkings, @threespeak, @jongolson, @dalz, @manniman, @lordbutterfly, @brofund, @jerrythefarmer, @danielvehe, @vikisecrets, @manuphotos, @finguru, @acidyo, @crptogeek, @offgridlife, @noakmilo, @guruvaj, @queenstarr, @forykw, @coldbeetrootsoup, @bigtakosensei, @cabetosag, @gorayii, @rubencress, @idiosyncratic1, @jonsnow1983,

I Love You all guys ❤️

I discovered Hive back in 2017 when I was doing my research. My goal on Hive is I want to use the stake power up to be able to help the community. I prayed to God to help me to be able to become a cheerful giver to anyone who is lacking like food, medicine, and livelihood. Hope you can follow my journey

Where the hell did they get that bogus number for Justin Sun’s Stinc and why would they think his sock puppets are decentralized?

@eddiespino try and DM them on twitter or email them. They generally always change these things if asked.

They generally always change these things if asked.

That is nice of them if it's true, they can still prove the credibility in the coming days

That is a really weird report. They appear to be judging decentralized networks based on hits to centralized sites in the network.

People on HIVE use different interfaces to connect to the blockchain.

As I recall, the most popular HIVE interface is Splinterlands. A lot of people use PeakD.com, Waivio, Iliketu or leofinance as their principle interface ... not to mention all of the cookie cutter tribes.

One can't judge HIVE by the traffic to Hive.blog as hive.blog was intended to be a sample interface and not the only centralized interface.

Yeah, I agree with you aside from the comparison of centralized vs decentralized project like Hive. Maybe they should name their report as Top 15 Most Popular claiming to be Decentralized Social Media in 2023, eh?

A better post would be about the number of web sites that interface with the blockchain.

HIVE has hundreds of sites that interface with HIVE and Hive-Engine. Steemit is down to a dozen.
