[ESP-ENG] Mi sobrina Martina en su primer encuentro con el arte del crochet ♥ // My niece Martina in her first encounter with the art of crochet ♥

Hello beautiful people of the motherhood community ♥ I hope you are really well. When I was little I used to see my mother knit, be it knitting, crochet, macramé, sewing or embroidery. Both her and my aunts had been taught those skills by my grandmother, for this reason when I was approximately 8/9 years old my mother gave me a ball of wool, a crochet needle and we spent long hours teaching me how to use it. At the age of 10 I was already making scarves and hats! Over the years I stopped having so much patience, I began to use my time in other activities and put the needles aside. My mom kept weaving and learning new activities, and in quarantine we were side by side weaving chinstraps and masks. Even at the time I published some tutorials here on Hive! but I don't usually knit that much these days, as I said, I'm not very patient and I don't like spending so much time on the same activity.

Today afternoon I was at the computer working lost in my affairs, I got up to pour myself a glass of water and saw my niece Martina with a concentrated face, needle and thread in hand, and my mother explaining how to do her first double crochet . I stared at the scene for a few seconds, and I remembered our first time weaving, nostalgia took over me and I approached them. My mom is no longer as patient as in my memories, so I took her place and explained to her the times that were necessary. She was getting really frustrated so I sat down and told her it's going to take time but she's going to make it.

So I took a needle, a ball of yarn, and next to it I began to weave. The idea was simply to explain to her how she could be neater and she had to count the double crochet she did. But I had so much fun that before I knew it we were both concentrating on knitting. I totally disconnected from the world and my fabric took all my attention. We chatted about techniques, I told her about my knitting mistakes in the past, I told her anecdotes with my mother and how I sold my first scarf thanks to my grandmother!

We were knitting all afternoon! my mom with her checkered vest project, Martina with some "necklaces" and I just knitted without a goal, just counting and chatting. I went ahead and took it apart a few times, because I couldn't think of any work to do. While she was weaving, Martina told me that she was making necklaces for her grandmother, her mother, her brothers, and she even made some for my mother and me. Although she was angry at first because she didn't get her technique right, when she finished she was super proud of her work.

I can't say I'm proud of my work because I just did this lol

I think it is very important to pass on these skills from generation to generation, and that at her young age she learns that instead of wasting hours and hours of her time watching videos on YouTube that are of no use to her, she can take advantage of the time in something productive, she felt useful and understood that she is very good at something new! and how beautiful it is to create something with your own hands ♥ I am a proud aunt and I am wearing the necklace that my little niece Martina gave me in her first encounter with the art of crochet ♥

Saludos y saludos a tu sobrina Martina 🤗🤗
