THE PHRASE THAT SCARED ME THE MOST: "MOM, I HAVE TACHYCARDIA"

A tan solo 2 días para su cumpleaños, a eso de las 6 de la mañana, cuando mi hija mayor se estaba alistando para ir a su escuela, noté en ella al extraño en su manera de vestir mañanero, y es que, ella suele ser muy ágil y diestra en las mañanas, se viste sola y de manera rápida, le encanta ir a su escuela, ese día la noté como cansada, de hecho le pregunté si se sentía mal y su respuesta fue negativa, al cabo de pasar unos 2 minutos aproximadamente me dijo: “MAMÁ, TENGO TAQUICARDIA, ESTOY MUY CANSADA”.

Por supuesto esa frase no me agrado, era la primera vez que ella me decía eso, puesto que, anteriormente no había sentido tal síntoma, de inmediato le especifique que no iba para la escuela, puesto que no sabía a qué se debía dicho síntoma, pero lo que si sé, es que un niño no le da taquicardia por nada.

Mientras me preparaba para salir a llevarla al médico, por mi cabeza pasaron muchas cosas, no me podía explicar si pasó una buena noche y si en días anteriores no había presentado nada, por qué presentaría este síntoma.

En primera instancia la lleve para el seguro social, (servicio público) por la parte de pediatría, donde la pesaron y tuve que esperar que vieran a 2 niños más que había llegado anteriormente, cuando pasamos a consulta resulta que no había pediatras, solo estaba una doctora recién graduada atendiendo a los niños que allí llegaban, no subestimo el conocimiento de dicha doctora, pero por lo que me verbalizo se graduó de médico general el mes pasado, no es especialista en niños, no me puedo imaginar si hubiese llegado una emergencia…

No me quise quedar con esa opinión médica, porque realmente ni siquiera la examinó, así que me traslade al hospital de la ciudad, por estar recién inaugurado, pensé que funcionaba en óptimas condiciones, pues allí tampoco había especialistas, la frase que mi hija me había dicho en la mañana: “MAMÁ, TENGO TAQUICARDIA, ESTOY MUY CANSADA”, me daba vueltas en la cabeza y cada minuto que pasaba me daba más miedo así que, decidí llevarla a un cardiólogo, amigo de la familia, mi mamá lo llamó y enseguida le dijo que fuéramos a su consulta.

Al llegar a la clínica, porque esta vez fue privado, me la evaluó muy bien, incluso le realizó un eco cardiograma y un electrocardiograma, porque al revisarle las palpitaciones la taquicardia aún estaba presente.

Su recomendación fue, que le hiciera unos exámenes de sangre, específicamente una hematología completa y un examen de orina, él dice que, la taquicardia no es solo un síntoma que el corazón está fallando, también se presenta cuando la persona tienen una infección y fiebre y para ese momento Anna tenía 38,5 de temperatura.

Así que le realicé los exámenes y la lleve a su pediatra de siempre, (en una clínica paga también), la examinó completamente y al revisar su garganta, en conjunto con los resultados de los exámenes, llegó a la conclusión que mi hija tenía una amigdalitis súper fuerte, tanto así que no le mando antibiótico tomado por 8 días, sino que de una vez decidió colocarle un antibiótico fuerte vía intramuscular.

En la situación tan difícil que se encuentra Venezuela, no es fácil sacar de ya para ya 60$, sin embargo solo puedo agradecerle a DIOS, porque los tengo y porque no pasó a mayores lo que mi hija tiene.

Gracias a DIOS ya está mucho mejor, aunque aún de reposo, el miércoles vuelvo a llevarla a la pediatras con nuevos exámenes.

Of course that sentence did not please me, it was the first time she told me that, since she had not felt that symptom before, I immediately specified that she was not going to school, since I did not know what was the reason for that symptom, but what I do know, is that a child does not get tachycardia for nothing.

While I was getting ready to take her to the doctor, many things went through my head, I could not explain to myself if she had a good night and if in previous days she had not presented anything, why would she present this symptom.

In the first instance I took her to the social security (public service) for pediatrics, where they weighed her and I had to wait for them to see 2 more children who had arrived previously, when we went to the doctor's office there were no pediatricians, there was only a recently graduated doctor attending the children who arrived there, I do not underestimate the knowledge of that doctor, but from what she told me she graduated as a general practitioner last month, she is not a specialist in children, I can not imagine if an emergency had arrived...

I did not want to keep that medical opinion, because she really did not even examine her, so I went to the hospital in the city, because it was recently inaugurated, I thought it worked in optimal conditions, because there were no specialists there either, the phrase that my daughter had told me in the morning: "MOM, I HAVE TACHYCARDIA, I'M VERY TIRED", was going around in my head and every minute that passed made me more afraid so, I decided to take her to a cardiologist, a friend of the family, my mom called him and immediately told him that we should go to his office.

When we arrived at the clinic, because this time it was private, he evaluated her very well, he even performed a cardiogram echo and an electrocardiogram, because when we checked her palpitations the tachycardia was still present.

His recommendation was to do some blood tests, specifically a complete hematology and a urine test, he said that tachycardia is not only a symptom that the heart is failing, it also occurs when the person has an infection and fever and at that time Anna had a temperature of 38.5.

So I did the tests and took her to her usual pediatrician, (in a paid clinic too), he examined her completely and when he checked her throat, together with the results of the tests, he concluded that my daughter had a super strong tonsillitis, so much so that he did not give her antibiotics taken for 8 days, but decided to give her a strong antibiotic intramuscularly.

In the difficult situation that Venezuela is going through, it is not easy to get $60 from now to now, however I can only thank GOD, because I have them and because what my daughter has did not go to the next level.

Thanks to GOD she is already much better, although she is still resting, on Wednesday I will take her to the pediatrician again with new tests.
