Ferdinand: Rudiger is the best EPL centre back currently

For a long time, the debate has been about either Virgil van Dijk or Ruben Dias as the best central defender in the Premier League. Now, however, the case is different, if you ask the former Manchester United star and English national team defender, Rio Ferdinand, who must be considered an expert in this particular field.

The current expert at Sky Sports points to Chelsea's German lighthouse Antonio Rüdiger, who since the hiring of Thomas Tuchel has been more than just rock solid for the defending Champions League winners.

Since Tuchel has come in, I think without a doubt that he has been the best central defender. I would think that he and Dias could have been close, but the effect he has had on his team is incredible, sounds the praise from Ferdinand on his own YouTube channel to Rüdiger.

Under Frank Lampard, It was clear that he was not Frank's cup of tea. He did not really like him. There were rumors that they were trying to sell him.

Finally, Rio Ferdinand also points out that, for Chelsea's sake, he hopes they can extend his contract with Rüdiger. Right now it is due to expire next summer, which means that the German can potentially negotiate with new clubs from 1 January.
