Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 27:20-25

His mom had him fetching goats, then putting some of the goat hair on his arms and neck last week. She even calmed his worries that his dad might be upset if he lies to him. She gets him all ready and sends him into his father's room with the food he requested.

So we pick up the story where Jacob tells his father that it is time to eat. Isaac asks him how he was able to find it so quickly. The answer comes "Your God has granted me success." Isaac wants to touch his arms to check if it is really Esau, and even says that it sounds like Jacob.

Then to be triple sure, he asks him if he is really Esau. The boy lies, "I am." Then Isaac ate and Jacob brought him wine. After all, they have to get this dinner stuff over with in a hurry, before Esau gets back!

But Isaac said to his son, "How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?" He answered, "Because YHVH your God granted me success." Then Isaac said to Jacob, "Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, to know whether you are really my son Esau or not." So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, who felt him and said, "The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau." And he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau's hands. So he blessed him. He said, "Are you really my son Esau?" He answered, "I am." Then he said, "Bring it near to me, that I may eat of my son's game and bless you." So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

Was Jacob also ruddy ? Like Esau… “And one went out first, red and all ringlets of hair, and he called his name Esau.” Gen 25:25
?.. And the first one emerged ruddy; he was completely like a coat of hair, and they named him Esau.

The text doesn't say what Jacob looked like, but only that he was a home-body and loved to cook (hung out with mom all the time). The cartoonists fill the void for us though.
