How we celebrate All Soul's Day or "Dia de Los Muertos"

Growing up, I have witnessed my grandmother prepare for "Dia de Los Muertos" or Day of the Dead (All Soul's Day), she arranges flowers, candles, and some of the favourite food of our loved ones who passed away! My grandmother puts everything at the altar we offer prayers, the next morning we ate everything together. How I miss those moments!

Today let me share with you how we celebrate in modern times. November 1, my sister @sassycebuana and her daughter Kendra sleepover for playtime with my daughter Atasha. My husband prepares food for dinner, after we shared the mouthwatering food we watched of course "horror movies" first on the list was
A.) The Maid, Thai movie - terrified as (joy) the main character of the movie who was searching for her lost sister who was a maid as well and, ends up to find out that her sister was haunting them...
B.) The Nun - how it takes to be unholy, the devil can use anyone and anything for his rant connected with the movie Conjuring.
C.) The Tunnel - Ha Jung-woo fights for his survival!
D.) U-Turn - Tagalog Movie, haunted U-Turn area where a mother and a child die in an accident because someone takes off the signs or the barricade, that area is dangerous.
E.) Spirit of the Glass - also a Tagalog movie, a group of friends played with an Ouija board and opened the doorway to the other side...

I am a fan of any horror movie, it excites me and terrifies me at the same time but I still love to watch it.

November 2, the day of the dead or the all souls day. We visit my grandfather and uncle at the bone chamber, we pray for their souls that they may find peace and guide them through the light of our candles, we also pray for our friends and family that are far from us.
After we head to my mother's home, we had lunch and she had prepared "biko" sweetened sticky rice and "bukayo" sweetened grated coconut. It is a Filipino delicacy we love to eat during "November 1&2" as a treat and respect to those who are dead, reminisce them while sharing these goodies!

How Mexicans & Filipinos are alike in celebrating All souls day or "Dia de Los Muertos", one of my bucket lists is to travel soon to Mexico to celebrate with them personally, I love their rich culture and devotion to "Our Lady of Guadalupe".

Thank you again for reading my blog fellow hivers, where life, love, and all-in-betweens are as colorful as "la Muerte's make up"...

Till on my next blog! :) 🤡🤡😇

It always amazes me na you have to visit the puntod pala kapag November 1 & 2. We grew up away from our provinces where most of our loved ones lie in peace. As in, teenager ko na po ata nalaman, hehe. Share ko lang 😅 Sana all po nakapag-prepare ng biko. My mom forgot to cook 🤣

I'm gonna watch those movies you've watched later tonight, they sound spooky. I wish our LGU would have allowed us to visit our departed relatives, it really sucks not being able to visit them at least once a year.

Lots of great looking food! My wife and I went to San Miguel de Allende a couple years ago for the day of the dead celebration. We had our faces painted and really enjoyed it. We met three other couples there and stayed in a 400 year old house a block from the square. I loved visiting the cemeteries, full of people and music. I counted 8 different bands in the main cemetery, some just a few feet apart from each other. I have a beautiful beaded skull from that trip.
