[ENG/ESP] Touring the Gulf of Genoa, Liguria's natural wonder (2nd and last part, from and to the sea). / Recorriendo el Golfo de Génova, maravilla natural de la Liguria (2da y ultima parte, desde y hacia el mar).

This article completes the series of posts dedicated to the Gulf of Genoa, an Italian region where I spent several years of my life and which I learned to love and appreciate with all my heart, as if I had been born there.

The landscape is so imposing, the sea so immense, omnipresent in our sight, wherever we look, that the human being cannot but be subjugated in front of such beauty.

Cliffs immersed in an evergreen Mediterranean vegetation and with a variety of colors that during autumn and winter seem to change daily according to our moods.

A few days ago in this post I told you some of my breathtaking) in this angle of paradise delimited between the Cinqueterre - a wonder of nature unaltered and preserved by Unesco as a World Heritage Site - and the border of Liguria, which is the eastern part (Levant for the Italians) of the province of La Spezia, before entering Tuscany.

Today I want to show you the western part (i.e. the west in the geographical conception of the Italian language) that which goes from the beginning of the Cinqueterre in Levanto to the outskirts of the city of Genoa, i.e. Camogli.

Con este artículo completo la serie de posts dedicados al Golfo de Génova, una región italiana en la que estuve durante varios años de mi vida y a la que aprendí a amar y valorar con todo mi corazón, como si hubiera nacido en ella.

Es tan imponente el paisaje, tan inmenso el mar omnipresente a nuestra vista, miremos por donde miremos, que el ser humano no puede sino quedar subyugado delante de tanta belleza.

Acantilados inmersos en una vegetación mediterránea siempre verde y con una variedad en colores que durante el otoño y el invierno parecen ir cambiando diariamente de acuerdo a nuestros estados de ánimo.

Hace unos días atrás en este post les contaba algunas de mis impresionantes) en este áncgulo de paraíso delimitado entre las Cinqueterre -maravilla de la naturaleza inalterada y preservada por la Unesco como Patrimonio de la Humanidad- y el confín de la Liguria que es la parte este (levante para los italianos) de la provincia de La Spezia, antes de entrar en la Toscana.

Hoy quiero mostrarles la parte oeste (es decir el ponente en la concepción geográfica de la lengua italiana) aquella que va desde el inicio de las Cinqueterre en Levanto hasta la periferia de la ciudad de Génova, es decir Camogli.

The Gulf of Tigullio, as well as the Gulf of La Spezia, are located within a larger Gulf, the Gulf of Genoa, which is part of the Lugure Sea, which in turn flows into the Mediterranean Sea.

When referring to the terrestrial part I should more properly indicate this geographical area and speak of the Riviera del Tigullio, understanding as such inlets, bays, coastal villages with defined characteristics, anchored in time, hills that offer a panoramic view of the coast and the sea from above allowing to see a multicolored landscape of small boats or fishing boats of the local fishermen anchored next to imposing and luxurious yachts in equal measure.

It is an area also famous for its colorful houses that seem to "hang" on the hills and promontories on which they are built.

Sometimes the distance between the sea and the mountain is so small that the human intellect cannot understand how, hundreds of years ago, houses were built and still survive with the rudimentary (or perhaps not so rudimentary) knowledge of construction that existed at that time. . The solidity of the stones used for construction is remarkable.

El Golfo del Tigullio, así como el Golfo de La Spezia, se encuentran dentro de un Golfo más grande, el Golfo de Génova, el cual hace parte del Mar Lugure que a su vez desemboca en el Mar Mediterráneo.

Al referirme a la parte terrestre debería indicar con más propiedad esta zona geográfica y hablar de la Riviera del Tigullio, entendiendo como tal ensenadas, bahías, pueblos costeros con características definidas, anclados en el tiempo, collinas que ofrecen una visión panorámica de la costa y del mar desde lo alto permitiendo ver un paisaje multicolor de pequeños barcos o botes pesqueros de los pescadores locales anclados al lado de imponentes y lujosos yatches en igual medida.

Es una zona también famosas por sus casas de colores que parecen "colgadas" sobre las colinas y promontorios en que están edificadas.

A veces la distancia entre el mar y la montaña es tan pequeña que el intelecto humano no alcanza a comprender como desde hace centenares de años hayan sido edificadas casas que aún subsisten con los rudimentales (o tal vez no tanto) conocimientos que había entonces sobre la construcción. La solidez de las piedras usadas para construir es notable.

For the common traveler (and not for those of us who have lived a certain number of years in the area) the question is always the same: Which places to visit? And the answer is not always easy.

One thing is certain, it is not a type of tourism adapted to those people obsessed with consumerism and shopping malls. Along the entire Riviera di Levante there is only one shopping center of more or less relevant characteristics located in Sarzana, in the province of La Spezia. The other is located in the city of Genoa itself.

It is rather a natural itinerary for those who love walking, trekking either in the low mountains of the Apennines or along the beaches not always totally flat, with gravel and also bays and inlets that protect them from the winds.

Para el viajero común (y no para los que hemos vivido un cierto número de años en la zona) la cuestión o la pregunta es siempre la misma: Qué lugares visitar? Y la respuesta no siempre es fácil.

Una cosa es cierta, no es un tipo de turismo adapto a aquellas personas obsesionadas por el consumismo y los centros comerciales. A lo largo de toda la Riviera de Levante hay un solo centro comercial de características más o menos relevantes ubicado en Sarzana, provincia de La Spezia. El otro se encuentra dentro la ciudad misma de Génova.

Es más bien un itinerario natural para aquellas personas que aman caminar, hacer trekking ya sea en las montañas bajas de los Apeninos o lo largo de las playas no siempre totalmente planas, con ripio y también bahías y ensenadas que las protegen de los vientos.

Before reaching Portofino, the only coastal town with "vip" level of the entire Gulf of Genoa, with very high prices and very little accessible to the common tourist, visited by important personalities of the jetset and international sport and Italian politics and sometimes foreign, we find the coastal part that goes from Santa Margherita Ligure to the vicinity of the city of Genoa, through Rapallo, Zoagli, Chiavari, Lavagna and Sestri Levante.

It is possible to tour this area by ferry and see, if the day is clear and the sea is not too rough, the so-called Cristo degli Abissi (Christ of the Abysses) a bronze statue of Jesus of Nazreth submerged at the bottom of the bay of San Fruttuoso - a protected marine area - at a depth of twenty-five meters.

Medieval castles, Saracen towers (used as watchtowers to warn of the arrival by sea of pirates from North Africa) and luxurious stately residences can be seen along Rapallo and Chiavari, two coastal towns that in the Middle Ages were home to important families of the Genoese nobility, then the Repubblica Marinara di Genova that resisted the power of the Kingdom of Naples and the Vatican itself.

Antes de llegar a Portofino, el único pueblo costero con nivel "vip" de todo el Golfo de Génova, con precios altísimos y muy poco accesibles al turista común, visitado por importantes personajes del jetset y el deporte internacional y de la política italiana y a veces extranjera, encontramos la parte costera de va desde Santa Margherita Ligure hasta las proximidades de la ciudad de Génosa, pasando por Rapallo, Zoagli, Chiavari, Lavagna y Sestri Levante.

Es posible recorrer esta zona en ferry y ver si el dia es claro y el mar no está muy movido el llamado Cristo degli Abissi (Cristo de los Abismos) una estatua de bronce de Jesús de Nazreth sumergida en el fondo de la bahía de San Fruttuoso -un área marina protegida- a veinticinco metros de profundidad.

Castillos medievales, torres sarracenas (se usaban como torres vigía para alertar la llegada por mar de los piratas que llegaban del Norte de Africa) y lujosas residencias señoriales s epueden observar a lo largo de Rapallo y Chiavari dos pueblos costeros que en la Edad Media albergaran importantes familias de la nobleza genovés, en esa entonces la Repubblica Marinara di Génova que resistía al poder del reino de Nápoles y del mismo Vaticano.

While I have referred to the promontories of the so-called Cinqueterre to give a panoramic view of spectacular natural beauty to the limit of astonishment, the rest of Liguria is not exempt from these geographical features that, falling steeply into the sea, give it an image of extraordinary beauty.

For this reason UNESCO has distinguished them to be preserved and valorized as assets - not only of Italy in this case - but of all humanity. And the Gulf of Genoa has places of this type that contribute to increase the tourist offer of the region.

Sestri Levante is one of the few fine sandy beaches in Liguria where stones and pebbles abound and sometimes discourage tourists from walking barefoot on the beach.

The Bay of Silence (Baia del Silenzio) and the Bay of Fables (Baia delle Favole) are two wonderful places to visit in autumn and winter.

Si bien he hecho referencia a los promontorios de las llamadas Cinqueterre para dar una visión panorámica de belleza natural espectacular al límite del asombro, el resto de la Liguria no está exento de estos accidentes geográficos que, al caer a pico sobre el mar, le dan una imagen de una extraordinaria belleza.

Por este motivo la UNESCO los ha distinguido para ser preservados y valorizados como bienes -no solo de Italia en este caso- sino de toda la humanidad. Y el Golfo de Génova presente lugares de esta tipología que contribuyen a aumentar la oferta turística de la región.

Sestri Levante es una de las pocas playas de arena fina en la Liguria donde abundan piedras y guijarros que a veces desaniman a los turistas a andar descalzos por la playa.

La Bahia del Silencio (Baia del Silenzio) y la Bahia de las Fábulas (Baia delle Favole) son dos lugares maraillosos para visitar en otoño e invierno
