[ENG/ESP] Touring Barcelona and discovering the suggestive charm of Barri Gótic (Gothic Quarter) / Recorriendo Barcelona y descubriendo el sugestivo encanto del Barri Gótic (Barrio Gotico).

The suggestive and fascinating Barri Gótico de Barcelona (Barri Gótic) in the so-called Ciutat Vella (Old City) is characterised by the presence of narrow streets in the purest medieval style where trendy Catalan bars, bars and restaurants predominate, making a clear contrast between mundane activities and millenary history.

El sugestivo y fascinante Barrio Gótico de Barcelona (Barri Gótic) en la llamada Ciutat Vella (Ciudad Vieja) se caracteriza por la presencia de estrechas callejuelas al más puro estilo medieval donde predominan bares, locales y restorantes catalanes de moda, haciendo un neto contraste entre actividades mundanas e historia milenaria.

I spent a whole day visiting it on my visit to Barcelona. You have to walk slowly, constantly moving your head up and down, left and right, to contemplate such a splendour of art, history, religious power, a display of visual wonder impossible not to observe with careful attention.

Le dediqué todo un día a visitarlo en mi visita a Barcelona. Hay que caminar despacio moviendo constantemente la cabeza de arriba hacia abajo, a la izquierda y a la derecha, para contemplar tal esplendor de arte, de historia, de poder religioso, un despligue de maravilla visiva imposible de no observar con detenida atención.

Within the neighbourhood is the Museu d'Història de Barcelona which exhibits the ruins of what was once the Roman city of Barcino.

In the Plaza del Pi (Plaça del Pi), which takes its name from the church of the same name that stands next to it, a large art market is organised on a weekly basis, with the heterogeneous presence of Catalans and tourists from abroad and from other regions of Spain, in a multi-ethnic and multicoloured mosaic.

Dentro del barrio encontramos el Museu d'Història de Barcelona que expone en su interior las ruinas de la que fue en la Edad Antigua la ciudad romana de Barcino.

En la Plaza del Pi (Plaça del Pi) que toma el nombre de la iglesia homónima que se encuentra en las adyacencias de la misma se organiza con frecuencia semanal un mercado de arte multitudinario, con la presencia heterogénea de catalanes y turistas extranjeros y de otras regiones de España, en un mosaico multiétnico y multicolor.

The Gothic Quarter is the oldest part of the city, within whose high walls the majority of the Catalan population lived. For this reason, two religious buildings of transcendental importance in antiquity are located close to each other: the Bishop's Palace and the Barcelona Cathedral, emblems of the religious power of the time.

El Barrio Gótico es la zona más antigua de la ciudad dentro de cuyos altos muro vivía la mayoría de la población catalana. Por ese motivo a poca distancia unos de otros se encuentran dos edificios religiosos de importancia trascendental an la antiguedad: el palacio del Obispo y la catedral de Barcelona, emblemas del poder religioso de esa época.

One of its limits on the west side is the famous Rambla de Barcelona, a route where the most varied commercial activities take place.

It is one of the favourite places for tourists to walk and shop.

Uno de sus límites por el lado oeste es la famosa Rambla de Barcelona, un recorrido donde se dan cita las más variadas actividades comerciales.

Es uno de los lugares preferidos por los turistas para caminar y hacer compras.

Another of the buildings we can admire, a true Catalan monument, is the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Palace of the Generalitat de Catalunya) one of the few European buildings of medieval origin that remains alive and unchanged as the seat of local government and whose tower flies two flags: that of Spain and the inevitable flag of Catalonia, a sign of respect for the central power but also a symbol of Catalan independence.

Otro de los edificios que podemos admirar, verdadero monumento catalán es el Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Palacio de la Generalidad de Cataluña) uno de los pocos edificios europeos de origen medieval que se mantiene vivo e inalterable como sede del gobierno local y en cuya torre flamean dos banderas: la de España y la infaltable de Cataluña señal de respeto hacia el poder central pero también símbolo independentista catalán.

The Plaça Sant Jaume links the palace of the Generalitat with the City Hall.

Monuments and historic buildings everywhere in the Gothic Quarter. You should take a photo at every step. Impossible not to immortalise every place in photos. Each monument is full of history, of intrigue, of the very origin of the Catalan community.

La Plaza Sant Jaume une el palacio de la Generalidad con el Ayuntamiento.

Monumentos y edificios históricos por doquier en el Barrio Gótico. Debería sacar una foto a cada paso. Imposible no inmortalizar en fotos cada lugar. Cada monumento está lleno de historia, de intrigas, del origen misma de la comunidad catalana.

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful areas in the whole city of Barcelona.

Although I was not able to visit it, I have been told that the ruins of what was once the Jewish Quarter, known as El Call, and abolished more than 600 years ago, at the dawn of the Modern Age, after the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, still remain.

Sin lugar a dudas una de las zonas más hermosas de toda la ciudad de Barcelona.

Aunque no lo pude visitar me han contado que aún se conservan las ruinas de lo que fue el Barrio Judío, conocido como El Call, y abolido hace ya más de 600 años, en los albores de la Edad Moderna, después del descubrimiento de América por parte de Cristóbal Colón.

According to information I have been able to gather from the local Tourist Office, the Gothic Quarter was built, in its present modern conception, in the middle decades of the 20th century. It was formerly known as the Cathedral Quarter, in obvious reference to the imposing religious building.

The ancient appearance of the building, which harks back to times gone by, is in reality, in many cases, of fairly recent construction.

The medievalisation of what was once the historic centre of Barcelona transformed the neighbourhood, giving it new symbolic meanings with the aim of attracting more tourism to the Catalan capital.

Según informaciones que he podido recoger en la Dirección de Turismo local el Barrio Gótico fue construído, en su concepción moderna actual, en las décadas centrales del siglo XX. Antes se lo conocía conmo el Barrio de la Catedral en obvia referencia al imponente edificio religioso.

La apariencia antigua del mismo que nos remite a épocas pasadas en realidad, en muchos casos, es de fabricación o construcción bastante reciente.

La medievalización de lo que era antiguamente el centro histórico de Barcelona transformó el barrio dotándolo de nuevos significados simbólicos con el objeto de atraer más turismo a la capital catalana.
