Tammy | My impressions and review of the film

There are definitely movies that captivate you in the first instance because of the cast that represents them. In these days that I was without internet service I took the opportunity to take a break and watch some TV, and while I was watching the programming grid, I noticed that a comedy movie called Tammy was about to start, I had no idea what the movie was about, I read the synopsis and it was no big deal, but the cast behind this comedy was, it was enough to read the names of Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, to serve my popcorn, recline my couch and gather the family, I had no doubt it would be a nice evening.

Definitivamente hay películas que te enganchan en primera instancia por el elenco que las representa. En estos días que estuve sin servicio de internet aproveché de darme un respiro y ver un poco de TV, y mientras veía la parrilla de programación, noté que estaba por comenzar una película de comedia llamada Tammy, la verdad ni idea de que trataba le película, leí la sinopsis y no era la gran cosa, pero si lo era el elenco detrás de esta comedia, me bastó leer los nombres de Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, para servir mis palomitas de maíz, reclinar mi sillón y reunir a la familia, no tenía duda que sería una agradable velada.

For me Melissa McCarthy is a guarantee of a good comedy, she is a reference of this genre, but mentioning Susan Sarandon or Kathy Bates can be more than that, they are actresses of great trajectory consecrated in different dramatic genres, not in vain they have been deserving of the long-desired Oscar award.

Para mi Melissa McCarthy es garantía de una buena comedia, ella es una referente de este género, pero mencionar a Susan Sarandon o a Kathy Bates puede traducirse en mucho más, son actrices de gran trayectoria consagradas en distintos géneros dramáticos, no en vano han sido merecedoras del tan anhelado premio Oscar.

Now, that does not detract from Melissa, not at all, she is not only a great actress, she has also been the writer and producer of this film, which was directed by her husband, actor and filmmaker Ben Falcone. In addition to all this talent, there are special performances by Allison Janney, Dan Aykroyd, Gary Cole, Sandra Oh, Mark Duplass, Toni Collette, and Nat Faxon, to see these faces in different moments of the film, it is wonderful.

Ahora bien, eso no desmerita a Melissa, para nada, ella no solo es una gran actriz, también ha sido la guionista y productora de este film, el cual dirigió su esposo el actor y cineasta Ben Falcone. A todo este trabuco de talento, se le unen las actuaciones especiales de Allison Janney, Dan Aykroyd, Gary Cole, Sandra Oh, Mark Duplass, Toni Collette y Nat Faxon, ver estos rostros en diferentes momentos de la película, resulta maravilloso.

An always funny Melissa McCarthy plays Tammy, a girl whose luck seems to have suddenly turned its back on her; in one day, she breaks her car, gets fired from her job, and to top it all off, she comes home and gets her husband at a romantic dinner with the neighbor... dinner that by the way, he prepared to entertain his mistress, something he never did for his wife.

Una siempre divertida Melissa McCarthy interpreta a Tammy, una chica a la que la suerte parece haberle dado la espalda de repente; en un mismo día, rompe su carro, la echan de su trabajo, y para rematar, llega a su casa y consigue a su esposo en una romántica cena con la vecina… cena que por cierto preparó él para agasajar a su amante, cosa que jamás hizo por su esposa.

Devastated by the fateful day, Tammy packs up a couple of things and takes off with her spite to her mom's house to tell her she's leaving town, to which her mother warns her that always trying to escape her problems is becoming a recurring pattern in her life, that it's time to face her problems. But since grandmothers are always the grandchildren's lifeline, while the mother refuses to make it easy for Tammy to make her escape, the grandmother offers her car and $6,000 of her savings, all on one condition, that Tammy take her with her.

Devastada por el fatídico día, Tammy recoge un par de cosas y se larga con su despecho a casa de su mamá para decirle que se irá de la ciudad, a lo que su madre le advierte que intentar escapar siempre de sus problemas se está convirtiendo en un patrón recurrente en su vida, que es momento de hacer frente a sus problemas. Pero como las abuelas son siempre el salvavidas de los nietos, mientras la madre se niega a facilitarle las cosas a Tammy para que emprenda su huida, la abuela le pone a la orden su auto y $6.000 de sus ahorros, todo con una sola condición, que Tammy la lleve con ella.

Both embark on a journey in which Tammy will try to forget his misfortune, and Grandma hopes to visit Niagara Falls, a desire she has had since she was a child. Granddaughter and grandmother carry their own sorrows, so they decide to live this adventure to the fullest, without complexes or inhibitions.

Ambas emprenden un viaje en que el Tammy intentará olvidar su desdicha, y la abuela, espera poder conocer Las Cataratas del Niagara, un deseo que ha tenido desde niña. Nieta y abuela llevan a cuesta sus propias penas, por lo que deciden vivir esta aventura a plenitud, sin complejos, ni inhibiciones.

In this journey, as is to be expected, they commit some infractions that lead them to make decisions that are not at all wise, but very funny. The beautiful thing is that in this journey they bare their souls and strengthen family ties... without a doubt, the love that exists between grandchildren and grandparents is sublime and unbreakable.

En ese transitar, como es de esperarse, cometen algunas infracciones que las llevan a tomar decisiones nada acertadas, pero si muy divertidas. Lo hermoso es que en ese viaje desnudan sus almas y estrechan los vínculos familiares... sin duda el amor que existe entre los nietos y los abuelos es sublime e inquebrantable.

This movie was released in 2014 and I truly regret not having seen it earlier because I loved it, I laughed out loud, it brought back wonderful memories of living with my grandmother, who unlike Tammy's grandmother, was conservative and restrained; however, I would have loved for her to have lived her last days like that, fulfilling her dreams, living her life without fear of what people will say, dancing, singing, smiling, loving without fear of failure.

Esta película se estrenó en el 2014 y de verdad lamento no haberla visto antes porque me encantó, yo me reí a carcajadas, me trajo recuerdos maravillosos de la convivencia con mi abuela, quien a diferencia de la abuela de Tammy, era conservadora y comedida; sin embargo, me habría encantado que hubiese vivido sus últimos días así, cumpliendo sus sueños, viviendo su vida sin temor al que dirán, bailando, cantando, sonriendo, amando sin miedo al fracaso.

If you haven't seen this movie, you should give yourself a chance to do so, I'm sure you will enjoy it, at least I can tell you that laughter is guaranteed, and although it touches on topics of interest, such as alcoholism for example, the comedy approach makes it less dramatic but just as thoughtful. I honestly enjoyed it a lot, it was even more than I expected.

Si no han visto esta película, deberían darse una oportunidad de hacerlo, seguro que la van a disfrutar, al menos les digo que la risa está garantizada, y aunque se tocan temas de interés, como el alcoholismo por ejemplo, el enfoque de comedia lo hace menos dramático pero igual de reflexivo. Sinceramente la disfruté mucho, fue incluso más de lo que esperé.
