Devout Malta / Malta pobožná

According to the Acts of the Apostles, Saint Paul shipwrecked at the Maltese coast while sailing to Rome. And the Maltese are devout ever since the Apostle’s accidental short presence. Even about two centuries of Muslim rule over the archipelago didn’t change much about the fact – the Arabs influenced Maltese language and architecture rather than faith. The golden age of Malta came few centuries later when the islands were governed by Knights of St. John, a well-known catholic military order that protected pilgrims on their journey to Jerusalem.

Even though most Maltese are traditionally catholic, there are churches of various congregations nowadays. Almost two centuries of British governance introduced Church of England and later on, other Christian churches spread over the archipelago. Nevertheless, Catholicism is still in lead by far and proudly demonstrated all around Malta. Many buildings are decorated with a little painting or sculpture of Jesus, Mary or a saint, usually Saint Paul.

Hello @godfish. Thanks for sharing these nice photos with us and the history.

However, for future reference, this post would fit better in Pinmapple, which is a travel community.

Here's a guide I put together to help you learn about how communities work -> Communities Explained - Newbie Guide.

Once you posted your post in the right community, you can then cross post it to OCD community. Here's a guide about cross posting.

Please don't delete any post with the purpose of reposting it in another community as that can be considered abuse! Leave this post here, you'll get it right next time.

Thanks for your feedback. The photos are from various places all over Malta, that's the keen reason I didn't post it in Pinmapple this time.
