One of the best moments in life is becoming a parent, the feeling is exhilarating, having a new life handed to you, they become your world, and you want to do everything within your means to give them the best of life, with these responsibilities, training the right way also become paramount so they can become responsible adults tomorrow.

A lot of touts and other irresponsible adults we have in our society today are mostly the results of bad parenting, children copy a lot, and as the adage goes charity begins at home, most of what they learn either good or bad starts from the parents, the way we talk, things we do and all. It is paramount for parents to act rightly in front of their children.

Taking responsibilities early
source

I grew up in a caring home with my mum, dad, siblings and some other extended family members also lived with us, I guess due to this, my parent, my dad especially didn't allow us to learn how to cook early enough, even as teens, he would always complain of how we were too small to be in the kitchen, he wouldn't allow anyone except my mum prepare the meal, also some house chores like washing of our clothes were done for us. This kind of affected us later, although my mum never relented in teaching us, we were always forming lazy, because we knew dad was there to defend us. Leaving our parent house at some point either due to school or during holidays with our cousins, made us learn the hard way as females to learn how to do these things, some of us are married now, and I'm glad we eventually learn these things before and after marriage. You will hear my husband bragging once in a while about how he taught me how to make some delicious meals during courtship.

My first daughter is five, I have started teaching her to wash her plates after meals, with my supervision of course, also she helps once in a while to wash her socks during laundry, she is not that good yet as I still help in putting the final touch to the washing. I plan on teaching her how to cook earlier too, probably from the age of ten.

Visiting and Staying at relatives' houses

I guess due to the traumatic experience I had with a pedophile while I visited one of our relative's houses during one holiday, has made me now as a parent not allow my children to stay over at a relative's house, especially uncles, I don't have an iota of trust for any, my parent allowed me as a child, but I can't allow my children. As my daughters grow older some teachings will include no sitting down on any uncle's lap even a teacher in school, nobody calls you my wife, etc trust me I have had enough experience on this to give a full lecture, post for another day.

Being disciplined and friendly
image is mine, me and my daughter

My parent were lenient in terms of discipline, they are not the harsh type, I can sit with them and say how I felt without any fear, not that I don't respect them, the moral upbringing was there, and this act made me not to hide anything from them, especially my mum, when I had my first boyfriend, I told her about my crush and his I was going to accept to be his girlfriend, she advised me and told me to invite him home, which I did, I guess it made my boyfriend be at ease and took me seriously we later ended up married, I like to think that my mother involvement made it work out. As a parent now, I would want my daughter to be able to tell me anything without fear, so I can advise her the right way. I would be disciplined like my parent and still have a balance by being friends with my children.

There is a lot to write but I'm still on the journey of discovering myself as a parent so I will be stopping here for now. Hope you enjoyed your stay on my blog.

You sound like an amazing mother, the kind of ones I would look up to.

The no sitting on any "Uncle's" lap is definitely something I support because in all honesty we don't know who we can actually trust.
Kudos to you... Keep being an amazing mother, your daughter is really a very lucky one.

Aww, thank you so much, I'm really just taking one step at a time

I wish all mothers knew this, because the generation of perverted men keeps getting worst each day, and our daughters are at their risk, it's better to educate them earlier to know that no one is righteous. We even here stories of fathers molesting their daughters these days, it's so disheartening.

Thank you sis, I'm honored.

Haha, she was just cool right from our teenage years, there was no need hiding anything from her, she just has the magical words to scold and also advise you.

I enjoyed this write-up. My mom taught me how to cook at a young age, I was in primary school then. I could remember when I fried stew for the first time, I was so excited because they didn't complain, except that salt wasn't enough. I have learned that right from time and that made my parents great.

Children should not be allowed to be lazy because when they grow, it will affect them. I have had experience of few of them.

My children will definitely be free to open up to me. I just didn't want to add to my post to avoid getting more longer. My parents were hard when it comes to boyfriend. They never allowed us had boys as friends and it kind of affected my shyness when talking to guys. No, I wouldn't want this for my kid. They can be free but I will teach them to always set boundaries. They should be free to talk to us, their parents.

This is such an enjoyable read. Your dad sounds like a wonderful man though, even though he stretched his doting on his children.

I'm so sad you had to go through paedophilia. Many of us go through horrible things like this and I wasn't an exception. I'm glad you're taking the necessary precaution that our parents didn't know to take. Good job ma.

And did you just say you married your first boyfriend? God when. My daily prayer to God that time was to have a mum I could share things like this to. I'm glad your mum was so supportive. Your story is the type you see in movies. I'm happy I read it.🌺❤️

I'm glad you enjoyed reading me, till date, my dad us still is charming self being overprotective and more cooler, I love him that way😂

Those evil monsters that take advantage of a child's vulnerability, mothers should be be very aware of them, they are everywhere.

Yes, I got married to my first boyfriend and broke a lot of crushers heart, I guess I was lucky to find it right the first time. And my mums way if upbringing was unique.

Thank you for this very warming comment.

This is a very good post. You've discussed one boundary that I totally agree with you. The relative part. Crazy things are really happening. I don't trust anyone either. Even teachers. It's necessary to make your boundaries very known. I have no doubt that you're a very great mum. May God help you to do even better.

Amen, and thank you. Real crazy things I tell you, all children must be guided well against these predators in form of humans.
