Good morning everyone

Today I want to share with us my recent work which I titled Yemoja. This piece is the second piece in my collection qnd it talks about the goddess of sea and ocean. Yemoja is a very powerful goddess in the yoruba land and my art gives a story of what happened in the beginning when earth was created. As we all know earth is full of water and it was governed by Yemoja. When Olodumare (the God of all) created land in it, yemoja was angry that no permission was taken from her and she started destroying everything with with water. Then Obatala was tasked with the job of trapping her and so he asked Sango the God of Iron and thunder to create a powerful chain. And that was used to trap her. This was shown in my drawing. I depict her beauty, her divinity and the chain used to trap her with amazing adinkra symbols in the background.

The style I used was scribble and I was able to portray some realism with the drawing.

PROCESS

  • Due to some reasons, I couldn’t screenshot the steps but I took pictures with my phone. But they are not that clear, do pardon me.

Another beautiful one. I appreciate the lesson on Yoruba mythology. My interest in African mythology has been growing recently. I guess this is a start.
