Making the squid game DALGONA candy with the shapes.
Hello everyone,
Since the squid game season two came out, I’ve been wanting to make the Dalgona candy again. I’ve tried it few years back when the season one came out though I did utter rubbish then, lol. I decided to try it out again this time around since I’ve watched a lot of videos on how to make it and I have a bit of more confidence this time around that I can execute it.
The problem now is, where was I going to get the shapes to draw on them? If you are familiar with how to make this candy, you’d know that there are designed shapes that you’d place on the hot candy to form the shapes. Here I am in Nigeria with no place to get such shapes. As an artist, my instincts to draw them myself kicks in. I got an hairspray cover, washed it and used it to make the circular shape. For the star, triangle and square, I use an old plastic SIM card case to create them. For the umbrella shape, I skipped it. I don't have any availabile material I could tweak to create the shape.
On the first trial, I did rubbish again, lol. The sugar got burnt and by the time I poured it on the paper, I didn't wait for it to cool a bit before I tried to flatten the surface which made a mess. I tried it again, fixing my mistakes and I got a better result.
Below, I’ll be walking us through the process of how I was able to create them.
WHAT’S NEEDED
- Sugar
- Baking powder
- A tiny stick
- Shape maker
- Paper
- A big cup spoon
PROCESS
- The first thing I did was melt the sugar inside the cup spoon under low heat. During the process, I was staring using the small stick.
- Once it’s fully dissolved, I added a pinch of the baking soda and kept stirring till it foams.
- Once it foams, I took it off the heat and poured it on the paper.
- Now here is where the trick lies and where I made the first mistake. According to the proper way of making it, I was supposed to press it down with a flat iron surface which I didn’t have. I used an iron plate initially but it made a mess and so I decided to skip the pressing part entirely. To make the shape, I made sure it’s a bit dried but not too dried cause it easily hardens. If it’s not a bit dried, it makes a mess, if it’s too dried, it hardens. So one needs to be careful. To know the right time to make the shape, I used the SIM card case to check the edges to see if it’s gonna draw the sugar or stay it place. Once it stays in place, I proceed to make the shape.
Though, I forgot to snap this process as I was trying to quickly create the shapes before it dries off.
- Once it’s fully dried and it cools off, I removed it carefully from the paper so as not to break them. Unfortunately a piece broke while I was removing it🙈.
I hope you guys will give this candy a trial cause it tastes amazing too and it's a fun game to play.
Below are pictures of myself and my brothers trying to cut out the shapes as been shown in the series.
My brother was trying to melt it from the back here🤣🤣.
Those candy's looks very tasty 😋
l like the star shape, that particular shape of the candy just called me to have a taste.
Lol, trust me it's very tasty and easy to make. You'd like it. If you're nearby, would havefind a way to get them accross to you🥰🥰😂
Really. Just need a tip of the location, and l will be there, to get my share of the candy's.
Thank you so much 🥹🙏
