A memory game with recycled cups. / Un juego de memoria con vasos reciclados.

Hello my dear Hive friends, this week I was thinking about how to help my young people to memorize and locate the books of the Scriptures, I am a religion teacher in my church and I am in charge of the education of young people from 13 to 17 years old, this year we will study the Old Testament and at the beginning of the school period I noticed that they do not have a mastery over the location of their respective books which sometimes causes a little delay in the classes.

It was because of them that when I saw these disposable cups a light bulb went off and I decided to make them a game with which they could have fun and at the same time know the order in which each of the books are located.

Hola mis queridos amigos Hive, esta semana estaba pensando en cómo ayudar a mis jóvenes a memorizar y ubicar los libros de las Escrituras, les participo que soy maestra de religión en mi Iglesia y estoy a cargo de la educación de los jóvenes de 13 a 17 años, este año estudiaremos El Antiguo Testamento y al comenzar el periodo escolar pude notar que no tienen un dominio sobre la ubicación de sus respectivos libros lo que a veces causa un poco de retraso en las clases.

Fue por ellos que al ver estos vasos desechables se me prendió un bombillo y me propuse realizarles un juego con el cual ellos pudieran divertirse y a la vez conocer el orden en que están ubicados cada uno de los libros.

The first thing I did was to copy the names of each book in an Excel format, to follow the sequence and then print them and cut them in the form of a head breaker, so they could pick up each set of books that contains the Old Testament.

Para ello primero que hice fue copiar los nombres de cada libro en un formato de Excel, para seguir la secuencia y luego imprimirlos y cortarlos a manera de un rompe cabezas, logrando así que ellos recocieran cada juego de libros que contiene el Antiguo Testamento.

Then with the help of pens, packing tape, scissors and some disposable cups.

Luego con la ayuda de lapiceros, cinta de embalar, tijeras y unos vasos desechables.

I marked on the tape with different colors two sets of names of each book of the Old Testament.

Fui marcando en la cinta con colores diferentes dos juegos de nombres de cada libro del Antiguo Testamento.

Then I cut them out and glued one on each cup, little by little until I was forming little towers of each set of books, starting with:

Luego los recorté y fui pegando uno en cada vaso, poco a poco hasta que fui formando pequeñas torres de cada juego de libros, empezando por:

• Books of the Law.

• Libros de la ley.

• Historical Books

• Libros Históricos

• Wisdom and Poetic Books.

• Libros de Sabiduría y Poéticos.

• Books of Major Prophets and

• Libros de Profetas Mayores y

• Books of Minor Prophets.

• Libros de Profetas menores.

When I finished marking all the books in the glasses, everything was ready for the challenge of my young people, when I arrived to class that day I told them that today we were not going to study any specific block of scriptures but we would have a small challenge.

Al finalizar de marcar todos los libros en los vasos, ya estaba todo listo para el desafío de mis jóvenes, al llegar a la clase ese día les dije que hoy no íbamos a estudiar ningún bloque de escrituras en específicos sino que tendríamos un pequeño desafío.

They were very excited and thought it was a game as such, because that day there were sports activities in the Chapel, after doing our respective Spiritual Devotional I told them what the challenge consisted of, first I marked on a paper a number of X and 0 according to the number of young people, so that they could work without preferences and equally.

Ellos muy emocionados pensaban que era un juego como tal, porque ese día había actividades deportivas en la Capilla, después de hacer nuestra respectiva Devocional Espiritual les participe de qué constaba el desafío, primero marque en un papel una cantidad de X y 0 según la cantidad de jóvenes, para que trabajaran sin preferencias y equitativamente.

After each young person took his or her paper and placed each one in his or her respective group, I told them what their first challenge would be: to assemble the books according to how they were placed in the Bible.

Luego que cada joven agarró su papel y se ubicó cada uno en su respectivo grupo les indiqué cual sería su primer desafío: Armar los Libros según cómo van ubicados en la Biblia para ello les di 5 minutos para que volvieran a leer el índice y así poder ubicar cada juego de libros.

After 5 minutes each team began to assemble their respective blocks and scriptures with some errors in the location of texts but at the end of giving them the time so that with the help of the index of the scriptures they could assemble each set of books.

Pasados los 5 minutos cada equipo comenzó a armar sus respectivos bloques e escrituras con algunos errores de ubicación de textos pero al final de darles el tiempo para que con la ayuda del índice de las escrituras pudieran armar cada juego de libros.

Then would come the real challenge, first they would have to assemble the 5 towers that correspond to the different books.

Luego vendría el verdadero desafío, primero tendrían que armar las 5 torres que corresponden a los diferentes libros

and after overcoming that challenge,

y luego de superar ese desafío,

For them that was the most fun part and the most concentration when it came to placing each glass avoiding the others to fall down.

En ese mismo orden armar una torre con todos los libros, para ellos esa fue la parte más divertida y de concentración a la hora de colocar cada vaso evitando que los otros se cayeran.

In the end I achieved my goal, they learned at least the names of the books that are located in the Old Testament and at the same time they had fun building the towers. Thank you for allowing me to share with you this great experience.

Al final logré el cometido ellos aprendieron al menos los nombres de los libros que se ubican en el Antiguo Testamento y a la vez de divirtieron al construir las torres. Gracias por permitirme compartir con ustedes esta gran experiencia.
