One Of The Days I Questioned My Existence.

Having experienced embarrassing moments in our lives is quite inevitable and I think it is just part of life. The experience can hit us differently as an individual judging by different factors but the fact remains that everyone has a story to tell.

We wake up every day with the expectation of having a great day and somehow, something unexpected would just come up to steal away the energy and hope we got out of bed with. My little experience in life has taught me that our lives can't be always perfect and not all things will work out as planned, there will be moments we never wished for, and depending on how we interpret the situation, I believe there is always a lesson to learn.

I have had several funny embarrassing moments in life but I intend to share something we can all learn from.

I felt happy to have gotten a job after searching for quite a while, the job was important because I needed to continue my Higher national diploma and support my family as well.

It wasn't the kind of job I wished for but I had to settle with it. It was a contract job and I was employed by a man for a company job. I didn't have any access to the company and this man had the power to do anything he wishes with me.

He used me for dirty jobs and the salary was nothing to write home about but it was better than doing nothing.

There was a particular time when this man went on leave and getting my salary was impossible so aI took a bold step to go to the company myself to get my salary and it was then I realized that he has been paying me less than 45% of my salary.
He requested for refund which I did, getting a new job was not certain so I played by his rule. On his return from leave, he started intimidating me.

He always intentionally embarrassed and ridiculed me in front of his team who were all company staff.

I never allowed those embarrassments get into my head but a particular one happened that made me shed tears in public.

I was told to bring some small packs of rice from a particular market to my boss's terrority with a company van which I did. He ordered his team to come and get a specific number of packs as a monthly bonus from me.

I followed every instruction and when it got to a lady's turn, she insisted that she wanted more than what I was instructed to give. It turned into an argument and I made it clear that it was the boss's instruction, I can't do otherwise unless he tells me to do so.

To sort things, I started calling him but he won't pick up. The lady left angrily without taking any rice pack and she returned with my boss to where the vehicle with the goods was parked.

"Why are you so senseless with your height?", He asked immediately he got to me and I didn't say a word to him.

He went on shouting, calling me a fool and his noise started drawing attention. We were in the marketplace and passers-by waited to see what was going on.

I tried explaining what happened probably he would realize I wasn't wrong but he kept screaming shut up! like he was talking to a kid.

He called me all sorts of names and said, I always behave like a hungry person whenever it comes to food. He pushed me away from the bus and gave the girl even more than what she requested.

How can someone I haven't approached for food before call me a glutton and it was clear that he only wanted to ridicule me in public?

Everything he said hit me differently and I felt embarrassed. I returned to the bus when he left and cried my eyes out. Walking through that market was impossible for me because a lot of people recognized me from the market survey that I was doing.

A day before the incident, I gave a woman more than the quantity of rice in one pack and as I thought about everything, I couldn't stop crying. I wished I didn't exist because of the shame I felt that day, it was the most embarrassing day of my life.

Even while writing this, I couldn't hold back tears as the memories were flowing.

Other people came to get their packs of rice and in the end, it remained one. He told me to keep the last one but I rejected it.

My boss remained mean to me until I took someone's advice who told me to beg him. He was the one who hurt my feelings so why should I beg him?

I did as advised and months after I apologized, he introduced me to an Indian man who was a senior staff and the man took me from him. I became a staff in less than two months and instead of taking revenge, I allowed karma to do its job.

This man was forced to quit the job embarrassingly.

It is easier to say that the patient dog ate the fattest bone in my case but I wasn't just patient for no reason. I understood the company operations, I learned a lot from running errands for the man and I knew I could fit in if I got the opportunity which I why I endured all the embarrassment and it paid off.

After I settled well in the job, I realized that allowing people's ill treatment towards us while trying better our lives get to us is wrong and instead of quitting that promising path we are walking on, it's better to convert their negativity to strength for ourselves.

Your story is touching George. Those words said to you publicly were hurtful plus the action over there and thus your tears. Glad it was a happy ending with so much lessons learnt.
Thanks for sharing your life story with us and good luck with the contest!

I felt broken that day but just had to hold to my belief that there was an opportunity waiting for me at the end of the tunnel and it did happen.

My experience taught lessons I held tightly because if I didn't do that, I might make the same mistake my boss did and I won't understand the value of patience.

My experience is one of those things that happens in life and we can only hope that no matter what happens, we shouldn't fall into embarrassment too much for us to handle.

Thanks for the visit.

Yeah, patience is a virtue but in some cases, patience would be a bad option. I am not the type who doesn't know how to react but I saw something bigger at the end of everything that was why I choose to be patient.

In some cases, patience shouldn't be encouraged. It is best to walk away when nothing is at the end of everything.

I can understand that this was an embarassing experience which caused an emotional response because it was also a hurtful one. This is normal. That boss was not a leader and his behaviour in public was not exemplary. You on the other hand behaved well and was rewarded. THere are many lessons to learn - regarding the boss bad behaviour but also how you well behaved and was ultimately rewarded.

It was indeed an embarrassing situation for me but I was patient till to the end of everything because I had a reason to be.

It paid off in the end and I was cautious of how I treated my junior colleagues, it was great though and I couldn't believe I felt bad for the man when his predicament came.

Thanks for the visit @momogrow

I am really sorry about your boss, @george-dee.

It's crazy how people treat others like trash when they find themselves in a higher position. They tend to forget the world doesn't revolve around them and that things can take a drastic turn.

I am glad you were able to move past all of the embarrassing moments and win in the end.

You are amazing 😍

He really wielded his power wrongly and it haunted him after. Everything he put me through prepared me for what was ahead of me and I understood never to abuse the power bestowed on me when I eventually attained a good position in the company.

Hmm.... sometimes, our day might start on a positive note hoping that all goes well but somehow, unexpected and uncertainties hit us which brings embarrassing moments to us which would then demoralise us.

There is a lesson to be taught in your experience which is that, no matter what people under us may do to us, instead of trying to revenge or act out irrationally, it's good to let karma do its thing and be patient while letting that moment gives you strength.

Revenge most time doesn't end well and while pursuing revenge, I might end up as the culprit so there is no point in taking judgment into our hands.

I was never happy about what happened to him because he was an important figure to the expatriate and distributors.

He fell terribly from grace to grass
