[EN/ES] Without realizing it, I was following the Quiet Quitting philosophy.

A term I ended up coming across a lot on TikTok was Quiet Quitting, which is the concept of working just what you were hired to do without doing anything outside of your job duties. In short, giving the exact effort to keep you in that job as an active employee. As a general rule, bosses always expect you to give more than 100% doing your job and even to exceed your actual job duties. Obviously they expect you to do all this without any extra charge to the company, which is where Quiet Quitting comes in, if it is not paid, it is not done.

Without realizing it, I have been applying Quiet Quitting for a few years now and it is precisely because of the work disillusionment I have accumulated towards my current jobs and it is partly the fault of my bosses with their behavior. I don't know if it is a generalized evil, but it is something that I observe a lot nowadays where the bosses always give more value to the external people that come to work than to the employees that are permanent with many years of experience. I have been fighting for months for a salary adjustment in one of my jobs and all I get are empty words that do not give a concrete answer to my need for a salary adjustment.

In my other job I ended up discovering that my salary is calculated in local currency which is totally crazy due to the high inflation in Venezuela. As a general rule employees have a salary in dollars that is converted to local currency at the time of depositing their payment. Let's say that this is the most common but as always in my work I end up finding disappointments that further reinforce my philosophy of continuing to apply Quiet Quitting. The worst thing is the old-fashioned mind of my bosses who think that one should always charge the same no matter how much time passes, every adjustment seems expensive to them even when all the prices in the country are in US dollars suffering increases despite being in foreign currency.

The company that does the accounting for my bosses passed a letter of increase since they had more than a year without making an adjustment in their prices and yes, they ended up finding it very expensive and unfair that a company wants to adjust their rates to combat inflation we have. In fact, one of the main points used by this company is that it must adjust its employees to continue operating and therefore the adjustment to its customers. According to them inflation in June of last year was at 157% and in July of this year 137%, something that we all suffer on a daily basis when purchasing goods or services, but which my bosses conveniently ignore.

This whole issue of Quiet Quitting made me think that it was time for a change, to leave aside the jobs with a fixed salary to dedicate myself to work online in what I love, making content creation a source of stable income. The problem is that just when I decided to get serious with the creation of content my internet provider is giving war again, I was without connection from August 30 to September 4 and when they finally fixed the problem in the area the upload speed is now not even 4% of what I have contracted in my current plan. I have to wait for the visit of a technician to verify my house and corroborate that it is not my problem so that they finally accept that it is a problem of the last repair they made in the area that went wrong.

Sometimes I have the suspicion that fate conspires that I will never be able to leave my fixed salary jobs. To top it off, yesterday I found out that the migration to fiber that my current internet company is doing is mandatory because once the fiber is installed in the area the old HFC system is disabled. Although they give you a free modem replacement for a ONU you must pay for the installation of the fiber to your home and that is an expense that was not scheduled in my plans. Not to mention the fact that the progress in the installation of the fiber is not something that the company carries publicly, so I have to have that money available as soon as possible because I do not know when this change can be presented in my area.

Un término que termine topándome mucho en TikTok fue el de Quiet Quitting, que viene ser el concepto de trabajar justo por lo que fuiste contratado sin hacer nada fuera de tus obligaciones laborales. En pocas palabras dar el esfuerzo exacto para mantenerte en ese trabajo como empleado activo. Por norma general los jefes siempre esperan que des mas del 100% haciendo tus labores e incluso que sobrepases lo que realmente te toca como labores de tu puesto. Obviamente esperan que hagas todo eso sin cargos extra para la empresa, que es ahí donde entra el Quiet Quitting donde si no es algo remunerado no se realiza.

Sin darme cuenta yo llevo aplicando el Quiet Quitting desde hace unos años ya y justamente es por la desilusión laboral que tengo acumulada hacia mis trabajos actuales y en parte es culpa de mis jefes con su comportamiento. No se si sea un mal generalizado, pero es algo que observo mucho actualmente donde los jefes siempre dan mayor valor a las personas externas que vienen a trabajar que a los empleados que están fijos con bastantes años de experiencia. Llevo meses luchando por un ajuste de sueldo en uno de mis trabajaos y lo único que obtengo son palabras vacías que no dan respuesta concreta a mi necesidad de ajuste de sueldo.

En mi otro puesto de trabajo termine descubriendo que mi sueldo se calcula en moneda local cosa que es una total locura debido a la gran inflación que sufre Venezuela. Por norma general los empleados tienen un sueldo en dólares que se realiza la conversión a moneda local a la hora de depositar su pago. Digamos que esto es lo más común pero como siempre en mi trabajo termino encontrando decepciones que refuerzan aún más mi filosofía de continuar aplicando el Quiet Quitting. Lo peor es la mente anticuada de mis jefes que piensan que uno debe cobrar siempre lo mismo sin importar el tiempo que pase, todo ajuste les parece caro aun cuando todos los precios del país son en dólares americanos sufriendo incrementos a pesar de estar en moneda extranjera.

La empresa que le lleva la contabilidad a mis jefes paso una carta de aumento ya que tenían mas de un ano sin hacer un ajuste en sus precios y si, les termino pareciendo muy caro e injusto que una empresa quiera ajustar sus tarifas para combatir la inflación que tenemos. De hecho, uno de los principales puntos que uso esta empresa es que debe ajustar a sus empleados para seguir operando y por ello el ajuste a sus clientes. Según ellos la inflación en junio del año pasado estaba ubicada en 157% y en julio de este año 137% cosa que todos sufrimos en el día a día a la hora de adquirir bienes o servidos pero que convenientemente mis jefes hacen caso omiso.

Todo este tema del Quiet Quitting me hizo reflexionar que llego el momento del cambio, dejar de lado los trabajos con sueldo fijo para dedicarme a trabajar de forma online en lo me apasiona, volviendo la creación de contenido una fuente de ingresos estables. El problema es que justamente cuando decidí poner serio con la creación de contenido mi proveedor de internet vuelve a dar guerra, estuve sin conexión del 30 de agosto al 4 de septiembre y cuando por fin arreglaron el problema en la zona la velocidad de subida ahora es ni un 4% de lo que tengo contratado en mi plan actual. Me toca esperar la visita de un técnico para que verifique mi casa y así corroborar que no es un problema mío para que por fin acepten que es problema de la última reparación que hicieron en la zona que quedo mal.

Algunas veces tengo la sospecha que el destino conspira para que nunca pueda abandonar mis trabajos con sueldo fijo. Para rematar ayer me entere que la migración a fibra que hace mi empresa actual de internet es obligatoria ya que una vez instalada la fibra en la zona el sistema viejo por HFC queda deshabilitado. Aunque te hacen el cambio gratis del modem por un ONU debes pagar la instalación de la fibra hasta tu vivienda y ese es un gasto que no estaba agendado en mis planes. Por no mencionar el hecho que el avance en la instalación de la fibra no es algo que lleve la empresa de forma pública, ósea tengo que tener ese dinero disponible lo antes posible ya que no se cuando se puede presentar ese cambio en mi zona.
