Jero Freixas, actor y humorista argentino, tiene un privilegio que solo 297 personas (cuentas de Instagram) en el mundo tienen: lo sigue Leo Messi, el superastro argentino de fútbol. ¿Por qué es un privilegio? Simple, se trata de una estrella mundial ganador de decenas de premios, copas y títulos a nivel de clubes y selección, un ídolo de niños y adultos, mujeres y hombres alrededor del mundo. Eso por un lado. Por otro, que Messi es ultra selectivo con quienes sigue en sus redes sociales y al solo seguir a 297 cuentas en Instagram, es de imaginarse lo que este señor comediante, realizador de videos sociales sintió cuando Leo Messi lo siguió. En una entrevista que le realizó el diario argentino Olé expresó lo siguiente:

Hoy me sigue gente que no tenía idea de quién era yo, y me sigue exclusivamente porque me sigue Messi. Subí muchísimos seguidores solamente con él apretando el botón 'seguir también´.

En otra entrevista narra con un poco más de detalle y comenta lo siguiente:

Y… yo imagino a su equipo, a un community manager diciendo: "dale, Leo, pulsá el botón, está todo bien". Él debe saber que el hecho de seguir a cualquiera equivale a posicionarlo en un lugar especial. Me acuerdo que días antes de que me pusiera en su radar íntimo y exclusivo, gente de su entorno me contactó para decirme que iban a mandarme un mensaje de mail.

No dormía esperando el mail que nunca llegó. Pero finalmente ese 11 de agosto, Messi empezó a seguirme y de la noche a la mañana tuve 150 mil nuevos seguidores. ¡Una locura! Para nuestra actividad de actor, tremendo regalo.

Ese día, Jero grabó un video espontáneo donde se refleja su reacción y la de su esposa al confirmar que efectivamente Leo Messi los estaba siguiendo en Instagram. Lo puedes ver aquí.

¿Para qué toda esta historia de seguidores y seguidos y de paso, de Instagram? Yo estoy en Hive, ¿qué tiene que ver esto conmigo? Te lo explico.

El tema del seguimiento en redes sociales es todo un universo. Todos aquellas grandes cuentas o quienes planean serlo desde el principio, conocen el poder de un seguimiento, tanto el que dan, como el que reciben. Estoy seguro que muchos nos hemos sorprendido gratamente cuando una celebridad o alguien que admiramos y que de alguna manera consideramos "inalcanzable" nos da seguimiento en alguna red social.

En estos día me pasó con un escritor, locutor y coach que admiro mucho, me siguió en Twitter. Me sorprendió, aunque no fue una emoción muy grande ya que tiene 13.7 mil seguidores, contra 10.9 mil seguidos, es decir, es alguien que sigue a "todo el mundo", no es selectivo. Eso me convierte en uno más en su larga lista de personas que sigue y es muy, pero muy poco probable que alguna vez vea una publicación mía en su feed. Pero algo debió ver en mi perfil para querer seguirme, al menos eso quiero pensar.

🔵 ¿Por qué sigues una cuenta en Hive o en otras redes sociales?

Y con esto último que mencioné en el párrafo anterior, quiero continuar en este. ¿Qué te motiva a seguir a alguien en Hive, Facebook o Twitter? ¿Una amistad, porque te siguió, porque quieres llamar su atención? Tal vez sea porque te interesa lo que esa cuenta comparte en su perfil o porque estás siguiendo una estrategia usado por varios que es seguir a la mayor cantidad de cuentas, aunque no te interesen del todo, para buscar que te sigan a ti y luego tu dejarlas de seguir? Sea cual sea la razón, debes tenerla clara y sobre todo, debe tener un objetivo subyacente.

Sin embargo, debo darte una noticia no muy grata y tal vez sonar un tanto aguafiestas, pero si solo sigues por compañerismo, por amistad, por devolverle el seguimiento, te llenarás de seguidos que no te van a aportar nada y un día, estarás navegando en tu feed y caerás en cuenta que lo que ves realmente no te interesa, no te nutre y es más, ni siquiera sabes quiénes son esas cuentas que te están mostrando su contenido.

🔵 No sigas a todo el mundo. Pon a valer tu follow

Algo debes ver en el perfil de alguien para querer seguirlo, no deberías seguir a todo el mundo. Hay que ser selectivo, ¿como Messi? No sé si tan selectivo, pero si lo suficiente para que no le regales tu follow al primero que se te ponga en frente. La decisión de seguir a alguien debería ser muy bien pensada, analizada y consciente, saber porqué lo sigues, qué te va a aportar su contenido, ¿te va a enseñar, motivar, entretener, informar, deleitar? Sino, no lo sigas o considéralo mejor.

Poner en práctica ese filtro y nivel de exigencia, te permite no llenarte de seguidos y si eres una persona influyente, o que sabe que ganará seguidores y logrará alcanzar cierto nivel de ascendencia en determinada red social, como Hive, por ejemplo, el hecho que tu lista de seguidores supere ampliamente la lista de seguidos, te coloca en un nivel todavía más superior y te envuelve en un aire de que no eres un "regalado" que sigue a diestra y siniestra. Entonces tu "follow" se puede volver apetecible, deseable y aspirable por muchos, tanto que si decides seguir a alguien, esa persona pueda reaccionar como nuestro personaje inicial, Jero Freixas, cuando lo siguió Leo Messi.

¿Cuánto vale tu follow en Hive o en alguna otra red social? Espero que valga mucho; o que si hasta ahora has sido un "Don Seguilón" o "Doña Seguilona", puedas cambiar esta práctica por una más moderada, donde puedas analizar a quien sigues, ser selectivo con tus seguidos, al punto que un día tu follow se vuelva deseable y un signo de relevancia, preponderancia y prestigio.

The topic of social media following is a whole universe. A friendship, because they followed you, because you want to get their attention? Maybe it's because you are interested in what that account shares on their profile or because you are following a strategy used by many which is to follow as many accounts as possible, even if they don't interest you at all, in order to get them to follow you and then you unfollow them? Whatever the reason is, you must be clear about it and above all, it must have an underlying objective.

However, I must give you a not very pleasant news and perhaps sound a bit of a killjoy, but if you only follow for companionship, for friendship, to return the follow-up, you will be filled with followers who will not contribute anything and one day, you will be browsing your feed and you will realize that what you see really does not interest you, does not nourish you and what's more, you do not even know who are those accounts that are showing you their content.

You have to see something in someone's profile to want to follow them, you shouldn't follow everyone. Do you have to be selective, like Messi? I don't know if it's that selective, but selective enough so that you don't give your follow to the first person who gets in front of you. The decision to follow someone should be very well thought out, analyzed and conscious, know why you follow them, what their content is going to bring you, is it going to teach you, motivate you, entertain you, inform you, delight you? If not, don't follow it or consider it better.

Putting this filter and level of demand into practice, allows you not to fill yourself with followers and if you are an influential person, or if you know that you will gain followers and achieve a certain level of ascendancy in a certain social network, such as Hive, for example, the fact that your list of followers far exceeds the list of followers, puts you at an even higher level and envelops you in an air that you are not a "freebie" who follows left and right. Then your "follow" can become appetizing, desirable and aspirational for many, so much so that if you decide to follow someone, that person may react like our initial character, Jero Freixas, when he was followed by Leo Messi.
