Looks like a nipple - Must be a nipple
It's probably fair to say that most humans have nipples; though, there may be a few unfortunate souls who are nippleless, I'm not clear on that that fact.
The same could be said for the personality trait of perception, most people have it and have used it throughout the course of their lives. I believe it's not just a personality trait though, something intrinsic, it's a skill because one can affect one's perception, hone and change it and make it work in better ways. Most do not though, however time and experiences often alter one's perceptions so that's something at least.
Looks like a nipple - Must be a nipple
Nope, that's wrong. Things aren't always what they at first appear to be and quite often a person's perception is completely incorrect; often that's to the person's detriment and it can work to the detriment of others also. We're all exposed to other people's perceptions (whether they're right or wrong) and we certainly form our own however I believe there's not a lot of value in simply deferring to that perception; one must delve a little deeper.
I recently won worked really hard to secure a client on behalf of my organisation, one who is going to prove incredibly lucrative for the organisation and for myself of course. It wasn't easy as I had to battle against the perception the customer had of my organisation through past (bad) experiences and that of my organisation who's perception of the customer was equally negative. I'm not talking about individuals here, I mean organisation to organisation, however it was people who were allowing perceptions to get in the way of progression.
I was told by my organisation many times, forget about that company, they're all a bunch of fucken drifters, meaning that there was little point in pursuing the business...I didn't listen.
I was also told by the customer all the negative things about my organisation, the reasons why they will never do business with us again. Did I listen? Fuck yeah I listened!
It was great because they were laying out the roadmap I needed to follow, the speed humps I needed to remove, to get the business secured. I listened, built rapport, layers of value and a good personal relationship, represented my organisation professionally, addressed each roadblock as it came and slowly began flattening out the speed humps on the road to...a fucken lucrative contract that I will get paid a lot of money for!
Had I allowed the perception each organisation had of the other, a perception based on little true fact and more about personal ego and stubbornness, I'd not have secured the contract - My organisation would have not benefitted from the business and the customer from our services. So nope...just because something looks like a nipple it doesn't mean it is a nipple; perceptions can be wrong.
I had to do a lot of work on this one, a lot of travel, fucken video link-up meetings (which I hate), and months of research, planning, complex spreadsheets and paperwork...Worth it? Yeah it was worth it from a personal satisfaction perspective, for my career due to having put it together in the way I did and from a remunerative perspective also; come pay day I'll be thanking myself for the work I did.
Perception can work for or against a person and it's not an easy trait to sum up in a few words as there's so many variables however I believe each of us should spend some time thinking about our own and how simply defaulting to it without further investigation can negatively affect us. Sure, there's times when one's immediate perception is correct although it's not always the case so it may be wise to apply some caution.
How has your perception positively or negatively effected your life personally or professionally? Have you ever found yourself thinking about ways in which you can temper it and scratch the surface a little more to see things with better clarity? Feel free to comment below if you'd like to.

Companies (and countries and stuff) are made up of a bunch of people so technically it is individual perceptions, they've just gone and done the groupthink stereotype thing coz that's easy and how dare you question or go against this infallible truth XD
Yay for securing the lucrative contract :D
Yeah, it's people for sure but often the actual perceptions are based on second or third hand information/perception which tends to carry forward (Chinese whispers style) rather than facts. If I said who the organisation was it might make more sense to you, they're notorious in this country for their nutbaggery and for bullying other organisations, forcing costs down, all of which makes me more pleased with how it ended up after I put a lot of work in.
I feel like that's kind of the perception of most big organisations though XD
Yeah, they rarely make a lot of sense...as long as the shareholders get a dividend huh?
Damn I thought you showed him your nipples or he showed you yours and it was a done deal after that. One day the deal will work like that in one of the million parallel universes!
Awesome work though man, it’s good to win someone over like that and turn it around. Let’s hope colleagues don’t screw it up lol
There may have been nipple-showing...ok, not really. The executive assistant there though...wouldn't have minded a peek of hers.
A lot of my work was with my own organisation, putting things in place to ensure a smooth deployment of our services and mitigating the potential for compromising the deal...and also demonstrating that to the customer to give the confidence in signing th agreement. It went really well and I'm happy with it, even happier come the day remuneration is issued. 😉
Ya for sure the payout from it will be awesome. Mister bonkers might get a few Lego out of that!
Lol...or I'll get more Lego that he will eventually get down the track.
When I was younger, I used to listen to people's description of others. Whether they like or dislike them, I let those affect my judgement of people. But as I grew older my experiences have shown me that it was wrong. There were times when bullies and people I dislike stay away from a person, but when I got to know that person, we actually have a lot of things in common. Now whether it is about people or new experiences, I try to keep and open mind and learn more about it myself before giving initial judgement. As they say, don't judge a book by its cover.
An open mind, gathering your own information, is certainly a better way to go than to take on someone else's perception that may not be accurate or align with your own feelings. I wonder how many many people have missed out on something good, a relationship or otherwise, due to having taken on someone else's perceptions.
I actually just learned in the past couple of weeks that when women have mastectomies, they usually lose their nipples as well. It's just part of the process I guess.
I heard that when they do boob lifts they cut the nipple off and then put it back on in the right place.
That make sense. There s probably more there to work with versus when the fully remove them.
The absence of nipple is quite rare but possible, it's called athelia.
I think one of the reasons for your success is that you saw opportunity where the two parties saw a stumbling block, you became the perfect middleman for a successful negotiation.
You really put in a lot of work and am glad it was worth it in the end.
Seeing opportunity rather than problems is one of my strong points in business.
So much time working and above all listening and investigating was worth it.
Generally, bad perception comes from jumping to conclusions. You can have an idea at the beginning of meeting someone or an organization but you need to dig deeper to know if that first view is real or not.
It has happened to me especially with people, the first impression was negative but I was just attentive, with time and the behavior of that person I realized that my perception was real. But it doesn't always happen that way.
On the contrary, an idea I had about a company seemed to be the best, but over time, listening and observing, I realized that was not the case.
It is always better to research and listen first.
Jumping to conclusions can often mean people jump into trouble.
Exactly, it is better to be cautious and pay attention.
I agree. Sorry about the short comments, I just don't always have time to write long replies like other people do.
There is no problem, I understand perfectly. Have a good rest and a great start of the week!✨
That something like like it doesn't mean it is the exact. There could be some variation or resemblance that is not genuinely the same.
Indeed.
Congrats on securing the new client.
It's good to challenge our perception from time to time, things change and we need to change with it.
We can be so quick to judge, that it stops us from delving deeper, from becoming more aware.
I try to be more open mind, but I do catch myself sometimes, blocking people or situations, sometimes it's for good, sometimes I really could have just took more time.
Life is all about learning.
Great that you took this opportunity to help the company group xxx
It's good to be open minded as it opens one to opportunities and it helps a person gather the right information to then make better decisions down the track. Life is about learning, I'll agree with that for sure.

Definitely, perceptions can be wrong and it can shield us away from many possibilities if we pay attention to them.
I agree.
