When I first started out with splinterlands and HIVE, there was a lot to take in. Peakd, Hive.blog, Hive, HBD, HP, SPT, DEC, SPS, Splintertalk, wait whaaaat!?

Therefore I thought it would be helpful to start with at least explaining splintertalk and everything that's related to it.

If you want to learn more about the other tokens/hive frontends/blogging on HIVE, I did create a post covering this a while ago: How to boost your splinterlands carreer by blogging

What is splintertalk

Splintertalk is a social platform directly connected to splinterlands. It's meant to reward people who are creating content about splinterlands in the form of the currency SPT.

You can still use peakd or hive.blog and earn SPT, simply make sure to add the splinterlands or SPT tag to your article.

The splintertalk frontend will have some more SPT specific information on there, but it's not that important in my opinion.

What is SPT

As I already said, the main use case of SPT is to have a rewarding token for people that are creating splinterlands content.

It works pretty much in the same way as HIVE. Once you stake SPT it becomes similar to hive power, where you reward others (and yourself) by upvoting their posts.

Since the introduction of SPS (the splinterlands governance token), SPT got a second use case: being eligible for the airdrop. Actually, owning any splinterlands related asset will give you a higher percentage of the airdrop. Since SPT is considered a splinterlands related asset, you do get that benefit. Because of this, the price has drastically increased really fast.

I haven't heard any mention of SPT getting more utility, but who knows what the future will bring.

Things to know about splintertalk.io

As you may or may not know, hive.blog has many different front-end's (peakd.com, hive.blog, proofofbrain.io, splintertalk.io, leofinance.io, the list goes on...) and splintertalk.io is the frontend linked to splinterlands.

That being said, you don't have to actually use this frontend. You just need to make sure to use the correct tag (splinterlands, SPT, splintertalk and I even think steemmonsters would work).

If you want to see the amount of SPT you got on a post you will have to use splintertalk.io as this is frontend-specific information.

Curation trails

If we are talking about splintertalk and SPT we have to mention curation trails. Or rather, 1 very important curation trail. I'm pretty sure around 90% of my SPT blogging earnings comes from their upvotes: @monster-curator.

So it's pretty important to put enough effort into your post so that they find your content good enough to get an upvote. I must say I have always been really impressed by how good they where curating, all of my high-effort splinterlands-related content got an upvote.

However, this did change in the last 2 weeks or so. Even though the quality of my content did not change (at least not in my opinion). I guess this is probably related to splinterlands becoming so popular so fast, I can imagine it's pretty hard to keep up with manually curating every post. Also, I did see a post where they announced to get more people helping to do the manual curations so this might get better in the future.

All that being said, the more effort you put in your post, the higher the quality will be, the more chance you have of getting big upvotes, so that's the key takeaway here.

Get upvotes

Okay so since the huge spike in new splinterlands players I'm seeing some things that I'm not the biggest fan of.

Lot's and lot's of low effort posts in the community and the few beginners who do put in the effort to create good content are kind off lost in the mess. I don't mind the occasional low-effort post, but the balance definitely seems off. Therefore I will make sure to stop upvoting low effort posts and focus on good quality content.

I have more than 100k SPT staked, which isn't enough to make the real difference, but I will do what I can. If you are one of the newer players who is actually creating good splinterlands related content, tag me, or let me know somehow, I will give you a 100% upvote.

Some last thoughts

Also, don't forget, it's not because you write about splinterlands that you can only earn SPT. You can use tags like "proofofbrain", "CTP", "BATTLE", etc to earn other cryptocurrencies and ofcourse you will always earn HIVE. Also, make sure to join the splinterlands social media challenge, this will earn you a big upvote from the official splinterlands account. You will need to cross-post to somewhere, I would recommend publish0x, but you can use any social media platform (twitter, reddit...).

For more information about this matter I would refer to my other post: How to boost your splinterlands carreer by blogging

I always try to give 100% no matter what tribe I'm curating. I need to power up the SPT I get.
