Beersaturday | A painful but enjoyable beer
Today I decided to create my first post in this community. I've been a HIVE member for a while now and a beerlover since forever. It only makes sense that I would get involved.
5 days ago it was my birthday and one of the gifts I received was this nice pack of 6 beers.
Normally, these are not the beers I would buy for myself. I'm from Belgium and I do tend to stick with my favourite Belgian beers. That being said, I do like to try out some new things once in a while so I did look forward to open one of these.
Three of these beers had an alcohol percentage lower than %4, I'm not the biggest fan of these lighter beers, but if I don't drink these types of beer too often I can still enjoy them. That being said, I did decide to go with one of the stronger ales for beersaturday: the Hobgoblin:
It's a ruby beer with a 5.2% alcohol percentage. It has a combination of caramel and fruity flavours. Especially the caramel was noticeable.
I do enjoy other beers where caramel flavours are used like Leffe or Westvleteren 12. However, there the taste is much more subtle.
All in all I did enjoy the beer, but would not buy it again anytime soon. It's an interesting beer to try and I did enjoy it, but after drinking 500ml of it, I was kind of done with it. Not to say that I will never drink this one again.
Okay so we got the enjoyable part tackled, why on earth would this beer be painful? Well, two days before my birthday (= before receiving the pack of beers) I was mountainbiking (downhilling) in Germany - Winterberg. I took a pretty bad fall, had to go to the hospital, get stitches and lots of bandages. Turns out, if you fall hard enough, an abrasion is almost the same as a second degree burn wound.
Anywaaaaay, I usually enjoy beers with friends or family and in a different setting. However, this particular beer I enjoyed by myself, on my couch. Still one of the best remedies to ease the pain.
Both my hands look like this atm:
Let's hope I have something left for next weekend.
Cheers!
