Retro Review - Ninja Cop

During these more than 4 years in which I have been reviewing video games, I have talked very little about GameBoy and Gameboy Advance games, having these two platforms excellent games, but I had always omitted them for no reason, that is why, during these two weeks in which I was not publishing Retro Review, I was playing some pretty good and entertaining games of the Nintendo portable, being the one I will talk about today, a title with a relatively high difficulty, but it is still a pretty fun game that can be completed in a few hours.

Today's Retro Review is about: Ninja Cop.

Ninja Cop or also called Ninja Five-O, tells one of those simple but direct stories, without plot twists, hidden messages or pretensions. We are Joe Osugi a ninja whose mission is to stop a group of terrorists, which through the use of magical masks, these give them special powers, powers beyond human abilities, that is why our protagonist, must embark on the mission to stop them and rescue the hostages held captive. And that's it, this is the story of this game, which is just a pretext for our protagonist to go and give a few kicks to the enemies, so the plot of this game is not important.

Graphically it is not an entirely spectacular game, in terms of graphics it is quite simple, but despite this simplicity it is a visually pleasing game. With great colorful and a use of a color palette quite varied in each of its scenarios. The variety of enemy designs is not very varied and are repeated a lot throughout the game, what stands out most are the final bosses, but in terms of character design, they have a fairly small size, so they do not have extremely striking details, however, Ninja Cop, compensates for this graphical deficiency with a set of very varied and fluid movements. The animations are very good so it gives the game a level of dynamism quite optimal and necessary in a game where we are controlling a ninja who is supposed to move with great skill in their environment.

The scenarios despite being also simple in terms of graphic quality, are also quite good and with the few details in them, the developers managed to create locations, which despite being quite basic and simple, fulfill their purpose very well. In addition, there is a fairly adequate variety of scenery design. In general terms, Ninja Cop or also called Ninja Five-O, has a simple and plain graphical aspect, but even so, despite these limitations, it is a game that looks decent on screen.

The music is undoubtedly the best aspect of this game, as it fits with all the frenetic and fast action that we are going to live while we are playing. The music composed to perfection for this game, so it manages to create an atmosphere of action quite suitable for a better gaming experience. Playing Ninja Cop with a soundtrack that does not match its gameplay and style would not be a pleasant gaming experience. Many people underestimate the power that music can have in a video game and it is always the least mentioned aspect, but without any doubt the soundtrack of Nina Cop is great, with melodies of the Techno genre and some similar to Retro Wave (redundantly) but also with its logical and characteristic melodies and very Asian sounds, perfect for an action game, although the amount of melodies is very little, so many are repeated quite a lot throughout this adventure.

Ninja Cop OST Playlist

Ninja Cop is a fairly conventional action and platform game, but with a lot of violence and difficulty. It is a game with a fairly fast gameplay, so having good reflexes and having proper control over our character will make a big difference between completing the mission correctly or failing in the worst possible way. Our character will have a sword to cut enemies, shurikens to perform long distance attacks and a hook which we will use to move around the stage with great skill and reach targets that are at a great distance. The best of this game in terms of mobility and mechanics is the use of the hook, as it is quite fluid and fun to use them to move in the best possible ways in the scenarios, although at times it can be quite difficult due to the enemies.

We will have the classic final bosses of each stage, which we must use our best skills to defeat them, in if they are not so difficult, in fact, the most difficult part of this game is to rescue the hostages held captive by the enemies, since a wrong move when trying to rescue them, doing it the wrong way, we can kill them unintentionally, that is why we must approach the enemy carefully without damaging the hostages, otherwise, we will lose immediately.

In general terms, this is a game with a fairly high difficulty at times, but with a fairly fast and frantic gameplay, makes it quite entertaining to play, as well as addictive due to the constant dose of action that we will receive in each scenario in which we are. In addition, the use of the hook is one of the most entertaining and fun things to use in this game, using it in the right way, we can perform optimal attack and movement combos to complete the level like a pro. There are certain puzzles to solve, but they are not difficult, it just adds a little variety to the gameplay, plus it also has certain elements typical of arcade games such as a power that attacks all enemies on screen and the classic items to recover the life bar.

In short, Ninja Cop is an excellent action game, quite difficult at times, but that will give us some good moments of entertainment. A fairly arcade game, so it has a fairly high level of replayability, because the game always pushes us to want to complete the levels in the most acrobatic ways and as quickly as possible.

Good classic, I also enjoyed it a lot on the GBA. I especially suffered a lot in the 5th and 6th missions, they are unbearable, I love it and for me it's a great platform game, it deserves a lot of respect. A total pity that they didn't continue with this saga. (I think).🙃

I don't think they made a sequel to this game, I haven't looked into it yet
