As you all know and if you have read some of my posts in this community, you will know that I am a fan of motorsports, especially NASCAR. I am telling you this because in a past post the community kindly left me a message in a NASCAR race preview where they told me that they liked the circuits more, because they consider that the oval competitions are more boring and that in circuits the drivers can show what they are made of, the talent they have for racing. That's where my question comes from Are oval races really boring and easier to drive compared to a circuit?. One of the important things that our founder shared his opinion is that you should always try to encourage debate in the publications, which is why I have decided to share my opinion on this topic, where I will try to be as impartial as possible as a lover of motorsports in general, beyond just loving NASCAR races.

For those who do not know an oval is a track with only 4 turns, even there are three like Pocono, which in reality many may say that the ovals only have 2 hairpin turns, but the category always lists it as 4, while a circuit has a greater number of curves. The nature of NASCAR is the ovals, but nevertheless they have always run some dates in circuit and in recent years this has been increasing, more circuit dates have been added where even the ovals use the inside and outside to make the races, which personally I think has been a good success and it is expected to continue adding more dates in circuits to the calendars of the three national divisions of NASCAR, not only to the CUP Series, beyond that I like the races in ovals more.

Actually racing in circuit is a little more complicated, because it has several curves, both slow and fast, open or closed, where at any time the driver make a mistake that can leave him out of the race, but this can also happen in circuit because it may have only 4 curves (you could say 2), but as the pilots always run side by side, having opponents constantly in the front and rear, and if you make a mistake, this can be very expensive, with a big accident, which is why it is vital to use the spotter that is located at the top of the track, which constantly indicates to the pilot of what is happening. Imagine if you are racing on an oval where the cars are glued together and some of the drivers have the front end of the car and it goes up (understeer), obviously it happens that the driver next to you is taken, and there is also the possibility of losing the rear end (oversteer), as it is likely to also collide with some drivers who are on the inside or outside, behind or ahead, which forms a chain reaction and in NASCAR is known as The Big One, where there are always many drivers involved.

Personally I think that the oval races are better or at least more fun, since the advantages between drivers is less, there have even been cases in races where they have had to watch the replay to determine the winner between more than two drivers, at least so that viewers can see it on TV, since NASCAR has everything automated and this is determined in seconds. You know how exciting it is that several drivers cross the finish line in less than half a second, because I do not think this will happen in a circuit, although it is true that in the circuits the driver can show more of his talent, being able to demonstrate that he drives better in the different curves that can have a circuit, making spectacular overtaking. The ovals can reach a higher speed, there are races where even most of the lap is spent with the accelerator at full throttle and another factor that gives an advantage to these with respect to the circuits are the accidents that occur, which attract much of the public in the United States and other parts of the world, but of course always taking into account that the safety of the drivers is important, which is why the category is always very attentive to update the safety of the cars and at this point they have done a great job.

I think that oval races are not boring at all compared to circuits, besides they are quite complicated because the car has different behavior on the track, it is always important to have the best possible set up because a mistake can be very costly for the drivers, mostly because of the high speeds and how close the drivers are. On the ovals there are constant battles for positions, which can also happen on a circuit, but it would be rare to see two, three or even four cars side by side fighting for a position and in more than one lap. The point is that the person is the one who must choose what he likes the most; that is to say, this is a matter of taste, as the community curator account also answered us, a comment with which I agree with.
